  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Using the term "rapture" incorrectly

I Thessalonians 4:14 "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."

Verse 14 shows that he will bring with him those that have passed on in him. Those that remain and are alive will be caught up together to "meet" him. There are no scriptures to state anyone is whisked away suddenly, etc.

We have to let the scriptures speak for themselves.
Julie, in 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18, there is nothing about Jesus coming with His bride, nor about Jesus coming with the armies of heaven.

We have to let the scriptures speak for themselves.

Why must the writers of Scripture have to mention all the details, every time reference is made to Christ's return?
They didn't do it with His first coming.

1 Thessalonians 4:14-18 is not referring to Jesus's return.
It most certainly is.

I Thessalonians 4:15 "For we say unto you, by the word of our Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent in no wise them which are asleep.

Hebrews 9:28 "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin, unto salvation."

It's that simple. There is no third coming.

And not every detail is in every verse but we do have the references of the clouds that tie all of these together.

Daniel 7:13 "I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him."

Acts 1:9 "And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight

Acts 1:11 "Which also said, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, Which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven

Matthew 24:30 "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."

I Thessalonians 4:17 "Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

Revelation 1:7 "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, A-men

All the same event. All descriptions of his coming with clouds.

Paul didn't have to include every detail of his return in 1st Thess. He was trying to comfort those about their passed away loved ones and told them that Christ would bring those with him upon his coming. And for them to comfort one another with those words. That was the original subject starting with verse 13. And even after that they became confused and he wrote a second letter to clear up the timing.

We know Revelation gives us the more detailed versions and events so we can have the complete picture further tying it altogether. But it's very obvious these verses are describing the same event.

Hebrews 9:28 to take place during the resurrection/rapture event. The resurrection/rapture event will take place before God's wrath begins, according to 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11.

1 Thessalonians 5:
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At Jesus's Second Coming to be present on earth, it will be after the bowls of God's wrath have been poured out during the great tribulation.

The resurrection/rapture event will take place before God's wrath begins, according to 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11.
There were no chapters. These were letters. If we read on we see that Paul is continuing the discussion in chapter 5 that he started in chapter 4. It should all be read together to not lose context. He is not starting a new subject.

I Thessalonians 4:18 "Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

He continues-

I Thessalonians 5:1 "But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you."

I Thessalonians 5:2 "For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night."

They already know about the signs and seasons. Meaning he and others have already taught them going first by Christ's own teachings on the subject through the gospels. And Paul and others most likely taught them in person as well. Something we aren't privy to. He makes the same sentiment in 2nd Thessalonians.

I Thessalonians 5:3 "For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape."

He is continuing the same subject in chapter 5.

The chapter and verse designations in the bible were created by the translators for reference purposes.

Which is unfortunate but it doesn't change the fact that this was a letter/epistle written to the Thessalonians with no chapters. Again, he's continuing the subject, not starting a new one.

But feel free to believe this is a separate event. Many do.

Revelation 20:4 is definitive; ONLY the GT martyrs will be brought back with Jesus at His Return.

That's what I have been saying.

1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 is a continuation of 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18

In Revelation 19, the bride of Christ comes with Jesus from heaven. So the saints who make up the bride of Christ must be in heaven before Jesus returns. They will be in heaven as a result of the resurrection/rapture event.
Wrong. It is referring to the souls of the dead in Christ who will be with Him when He comes from heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:14).

That's what I have been saying.

1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 is a continuation of 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18
Are you pretending to not know what she is saying? What about 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8? Why do you skip to verse 9 and act as if verses 1 to 8 aren't also a continuation from where 1 Thessalonians 4 left off?

Then why does Paul tell the Thessalonians that they shouldn't worry about their passed away loved ones and that he will bring those with him during his return?

Thessalonians 4:14 "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."

I Thessalonians 4:15 "For we say unto you, by the word of our Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent in no wise them which are asleep."

Verse 14 is confusing, It does not say 'all' the Christian dead and the mention of God possibly places it after the Millennium.
However; I repeat again, that Revelation 20:4-6 is definitive; ONLY the martyrs killed during the GT will be resurrected when Jesus Returns.
the rest of the dead must wait until the thousand years is over.

Verse 14 is confusing,
Maybe to you it is, but not to me and many others.

It does not say 'all' the Christian dead
It doesn't say some of the Christian dead. It's the same event as 1 Corinthians 15:22-23, which does specifically indicate that it will be all of the dead in Christ that are resurrected when Jesus returns.

and the mention of God possibly places it after the Millennium.

John 5:28-29 is definitive, but you don't accept it. Jesus said there that the hour/time is coming at which point all of the dead will be resurrected, both saved and lost. Why wouldn't you want to make something that Jesus Himself said as part of the foundation of your doctrine instead of something written in one of the most highly debated passages in all of scripture?

Julie, 1Thessalonians4:14-18 is not about Jesus's return, but about the resurrection/rapture event.

In verse 16, Jesus comes from heaven. In verse 14, God has Jesus bring them who sleep in Christ - their souls in heaven - with Him.

Jesus said there that the hour/time is coming at which point all of the dead will be resurrected, both saved and lost
Revelation 20 tells us just when all of the dead will be resurrected. AFTER the thousand years, which will commence when Jesus Returns.
Any other theory about this, is wrong and violates scripture.

keras, as each martyred in Christ is killed, where does their soul go to ?

Revelation 6:
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

This idea is another violation of scripture.
We are told that ALL the dead 'sleep' in their graves until they stand before God - after the Millennium. Samuel, Moses, David, Lazarus, Stephen and Billy Graham, all await that time.
Your idea of 'all' Christians, makes no recognition of the pre Christian believers in God.

People who reject or gloss over Revelation 20:4-6, are putting themselves at high risk of messing with Revelation and false teaching.
