  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is Jesus going to reign for 1,000 years or not?

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article on the rapture of the Church, defending the idea that the rapture is a real thing in Scripture and that its purpose is to divinely rescue the people of God from the Lord’s coming wrath, which will be rained down in the future tribulational period spoken of by Christ (e.g., Matt. 24) and many biblical authors.

Some of you said that you didn’t think the rapture was going to be an actual event and commented that I was way off base. If you’re one of them, you’re really not going to like the topic this week.

The Bible describes another future period of time that occurs right after the second coming of Christ, which theologians have labeled the “millennium” after a section in Revelation that says:

The "Coming Wrath" is Eternal Judgment, sometimes shown in earthly calamities, including wars and natural disasters. The 3.5 year Reign of Antichrist is neither. And so, the Church is not "rescued" from that period of time via a Pretribulation Rapture. Prior to Darby (approx. 1830) such a belief did not exist in history. It is not legitimate Christian doctrine in my opinion. And nowhere in the book of Revelation is it indicated or taught. However, through the clever use of apocalyptic symbolism anything can be "made" to teach such beliefs.

Can you tell me how you interpret these related passages and how you think these allow for any mortals to survive the second coming of Christ...

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. 36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?

1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.

2 Thessalonians 1:7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.

You said you wrote the article. So, it was someone else? Why post things like this here when we can't even talk to the person who wrote the article here and you're not even willing to comment on it?

You obviously did not read the link. I post things all over the board for interest and conversation. It does not mean I’m going to comment on every one.

I'm not here to read articles from other sites. I figured you would have an interest in commenting on an article that you posted, but I guess not. Whatever.
