  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump says TX primary runoff between Sen Cornyn and state AG Paxton "cannot be allowed to go on longer". Trump will endorse one, other should drop out

Jesus wouldn't approve either. Do you wish to recite those marriage commandments with me?
I'm already married ,since 1999. I love my beloved wife more today than when we were married.

Great. Not sue why the invocation of Jesus to minimize marriage infidelity, political malfeasance where one's own party impeaches them, and the corruption itself.
Perhaps, just perhaps, rather than citing Jesus to minimize those acts, just maybe leave him out. Specially citing a Jesus saying that in all likelihood he probably never said.

Not sue why either. Be blessed.
"Great. Not sue sure why the invocation of Jesus to minimize marriage infidelity, political malfeasance where one's own party impeaches them, and the corruption itself."

"...not sure" was rhetorical. I do understand why people of faith run to find some bible verse to minimize such acts.

Jesus stated: "He that is without sin cast the first stone"
He also said "Go and sin no more." not "now let's elevate you to a leadership position."

They can't even make the argument that this is to get a Republican in the seat. According to the polling I'm aware of, Cornyn had a better shot of winning in the general election. But they still picked the guy who's so corrupt that he got impeached by his own party.

Voters not necessary. Trump's got this.

And Harris got the nomination because she got the most votes in the 2024 primaries?

Feh. I’ve seen this a lot in primaries, including one my father-in-law was in once. A candidate bowing out and giving another their support is likely as old as the US itself.

Blind loyalty to their leader.

Trump, who in the past has had good political instincts, chose very poorly in Texas.

And of course he isn't winning any favors with Republican Senators.....

I think he has the same instincts as always; his focus is just on himself (as it has always been) rather than on the party (as some may have believed it to be).

For a lame duck with an ego like his, having another fanboi in the senate or, if Paxton losees loses, making the podcast rounds, is better than having an establishment guy like Cornyn somewhere he can do actual legislation.

No time for a primary. They went straight to the electoral votes.

2024 Dem primary voters (I didn't bother as both parties were a done deal) were voting for Harris to be the VP candidate as Biden was expected to keep her on or had said so explicitly. I forget which as it wasn't that important.

Talarico leads Paxton by 3 points in Texas Senate race post-runoff poll

Forty-seven percent of likely general election voters in the state backed state Rep. James Talarico (D) in the poll from Texas Public Opinion Research, compared with 44 percent for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R).

The survey was conducted after the Republican primary runoff contest Tuesday, in which incumbent Sen. John Cornyn lost to Paxton, who had been endorsed by President Trump.

Nearly a third of the respondents who voted for Cornyn in the runoff indicated in the poll that they will support the Democratic nominee in the November election.
