  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is currently on your mind?

Which is good, and is down the line after probate. As a mail carrier observed, the dead can hardly sign to authorize forwarding mail. What he didn't say is there's been many a nasty family squabble over estates, and one family member having mail forwarded to them could be used as a petty form of leverage. In this case we're all in agreement, but still have to go through probate.

Really, I wanted to yank the senders' chains a little, like answering a phone "City morgue: You stab 'em; we slab 'em."

A note in general:

This isn't a matter of grief or sadness: It's simply what is. There's still the matter of bills coming in and to show the public that yes, someone is keeping an eye on things. I regard junk mail in the same category as spam callers, particularly those that prey on the elderly. I just would like to yank their chains a little. Once we go through probate, we can forward the mail and after, I think, a year, that gets bounced back to the sender.

FWIW. there is no problem with probate, either, just such things take time. That no one is contesting anything makes it all simpler.

It's sad, but have seen a lot of family squabbles after the death of a loved one. When my father died, the funeral director asked if we wanted to line up for the funeral procession in a certain order. I told him it didn't matter, and it didn't to us. Later found out that to some families it matters a great deal.

At the moment, how I'm going to juggle everything that needs doing. That's mow the lawn; buy the necessities; go by a shop; and make a hanger bar to replace the hangers that came out of the wall in our bedroom closet. That's just the most pressing things.

I'm having to help my wife with the shopping due to a bad break - literally. It required surgery and is doing well (doing too much in my opinion), and I'm there for the lifting. That's the necessities. We postponed the trip tonight due to the weather. We have a window to get the necessities tomorrow morning before the storms start, but that means I can't mow the lawn or make a trip to the certain shop. I might can get the required 1x4: the nearest building supplies shut down at noon on Saturdays and the afternoon forecast calls for rain, so... The original plan was to get it to have on hand to work on after I come home form work, so as long as I can pick one up, that should be good.

Note: For whatever reason, previous owners of this house mounted hooks directly in the drywall. Not a good idea, especially since the hooks are to hang clothes on. Plan is to mount hooks to a painted 1x4, then mount that to the studs. That's what should have been done in the first place. Will also have to patch where the hooks pulled out, but have the plaster spacking and that's not terribly involved.

I'm afraid I'll have to put off cutting the lawn another week, as well as the trip to that shop.

The thagomizer. That's the spikes on the end of the tail of stegosauruses. It came up in a dinosaur documentary this morning. The thagomizer gets its name from a Gary Larson Farside cartoon that gives that name to the spikes. Paleontologists liked it, and now that's what the spikes are called.
