CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Perhaps you're right, but is he worse than a person who shows complete indifference to Christianity altogether? I don't know.
As I read through this thread, I'm trying to weigh the importance of an accurate view of Radiometric Dating to the overall meaning of life. So far, I'm not really seeing an explanation or a reason to land on one side or another being provided by anyone..............

<Hypothetical> If I told you the universe was created 6000 years ago along with humans and all life....but Recorded History goes back 100,000 years - that would be evidence that your story is false and Creation did not occur.

I don't see anything explicitly mentioned about volcanic activity in the Bible, especially not in relation to Creation. Do you?

Maybe, but while the bible mentions Adam and Eve, it doesn't mention anything about the nature of igneous rock.
So, with that in mind, I think I'll keep trucking along with much if not most of what Davis A. Young & Ralph F. Stearley have to say in their 500 page book, The Bible, Rocks and Time (2008), along with a few comments on radiometric dating methods made by Roger C. Wiens in the following paper:

"meaning of life" is not something that can be determined by radioactive dating. This isn't the "meaning of life" section, so I'm not interested in discussing it here.

If you have data that shows things happened before a claimed formation of anything, then the claim about the date of that formation is falsified.

And created to look many different years in age. Some looking like hundreds of million and in some cases billions of years old in age. Why would God be so deceptive like that? Why would God not be honest about the whole thing and create the igneous rocks to look like the 6000 year old rocks that the are?

Ok so we have the most perfect world in the universe - a perfect place - so perfect that we know of nothing else in the universe that could sustain life. That is what God created....and you are suggesting that it should have been created differently? Because you feel deceived...lol I don't feel deceived because I know age is inherent in Creation.
If I asked you to draw me a picture of a tree - I already know you are going to draw a tree with age. If you had the ability to snap your fingers and create me a tree - I already know you are going to create a tree with age.

Creation occuring 6000 years ago is extremely far fetched - vs 4.6 billion. In order to give Creation any plausibility you would need the impossible: History beginning 6000 years ago - and a civilization that begins with the Garden of Eden.

No creation then, just a pre-solar nebula gathering dust into a planet with gravity.
Which is why I don't believe in "creation" and never did. The "Garden of Eden" story dates back about 2500 years. I'm not impressed.
