  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

NYC girl brutally stomped by teen boy after refusing his advances was lucky to survive, distraught mom says — while calling for justice

Normally, I wouldn't rely on NY Post as a sole source, but unfortunately (and who knows why...seems like under different circumstances, most media outlets would have this story covered), none of the mainstream outlets are covering this one.

There's video footage for those who have a strong stomach (and if you really want to get really angry watching it)

...but sufficed to say, it was horrific.

She refused to give him her number, there was some trash talking back and forth, and then he body slammed her, and stomped on her head. (with his friends in the background cheering it on)

...doesn't exactly make me want to take a vacation to NYC. Hopefully the Mayor will make a statement on it.

This has more to do with misogyny and toxic masculinity than it does vacationing in NYC (neither were vacationers).

Since his mother defended his actions, perhaps she, too, is used to this type of behavior and abuse and sees nothing abnormal about it.

The NYC environment has at least a little something to do with it. Had someone witnessed that occurring in a different state, he's mom wouldn't be on TV defending him, she'd be on TV holding up an innocent looking picture of him from 5th grade saying "why did someone shoot my baby"

That's possible.

Brock Turner’s parents have entered the chat.

Rich white people getting their kids out of trouble is a tale as old as time.

That said, the mother isn’t merely making excuses for him, she’s saying that he’s been the victim of an extended campaign of bullying by her, about which the school has done nothing. That doesn’t excuse a curb stomping, but it would make it a little more complicated than a teen boy lashing out after being jilted by a girl.

How is a 6 foot tall guy (who clearly knows how to throw hands) getting "bullied" by a teenage girl half his size?

Not to mention, it's hard to claim victim status when he active tried to block her from leaving the situation, and then pursued her while she was trying to get away in order to tackle and stomp her head.

No, not a reference to any particular case...it's the broader trend in nearly all of those cases.

Any time a young person is involved any incidents that draw some use of force (whether it be from a cop or another civilian), the family's immediate response is almost always to do a press conference and show the most innocent looking photo they can find.
(as if literally anyone doesn't look harmless and innocent in a elementary year book photo)

Bullying is not always physical, Rob. I'm sure you're aware of that. I'm not saying that I necessarily believe his mother, but you shouldn't dismiss her claim out of hand just because of their gender/size differential.

That is usually the lawyer rather than the family that conducts PR.

That's true. Bullying actually induces some of the same neurological perception of pain as cancer or physical trauma.

Of course, this kind of thing happens in many places, unfortunately, and you're going to get more or less the same types of reactions everywhere. People aren't that different.

NYC is big, you're going to get more crime incidents happening than some place in suburban or rural Ohio. That reflects more on human nature than the people of NYC specifically.

Is this some kind of hypothetical (as in you think someone would have shot him if they were not in NYC)? Does not brutal beatings occur in certain states?

Yup! That’s what I’ve been hearing for years. Some people even have PTSD from bullying per my own conversations with mental health therapists.

Along with the few other thousands of serious assaults in NYC? If there was a Facebook page for the suburb then it might get a mention. But...why here?

Here's another assault. In Bondi: Facebook

Shall we discuss that as well?
