  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Could Freediving in a shallow (<5ft deep), pool kill you?

Was freediving the other day on the pool that is shallow <5ft deep, swimming at the bottom. You know when you hold your breath for long periods while swimming underwater until you can't (reflex w/e) and you surface for air.

However, in the last run, I stayed underwater significantly longer beyond the time I can hold my breath while swimming as I never felt the urge/reflex to surface for air and even when surfacing, I simply breathed normally, no forced breathing.

I think I fell into a trance. I think it's the combination of soft, soothing sounds I made as I slowly swam to the other end of the pool, the darkness (it was early evening when I swam), the calming sensation of swimming slowly underwater, and finally, the slow, pulsating underwater pool lights. It's like a scene from a horror sci-fi film.

I'm worried that I could easily lose consciousness while holding my breath underwater in a totally relaxed / meditative state. Is this dangerous or even deadly, potentially never waking up after losing consciousness?

I'd hate to give up this activity. It's an amazing way to meditate.
