  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you believe the Nazis are you on your side and communists on ours that we each have to defend them?
Nope.
It is bizarre to try and rehabilitate the Nazis by claiming they’re not as bad as communists.
I did no such thing, and i suspect you know it. This may come as a shock, but it is possible to say one thing was better than the other while simultaneously saying both were bad. For example, if I asked you if it is worse to be burned alive, or buried alive, if you chose burned alive, does that mean you are rehabilitating being buried alive by claiming that being burned alive is not as bad? So please spare the melodrama and the pearl clutching.

I would just say both of those are equally bad ways to go. I feel no need to quantify or compare the two and evaluate which is objectively better or worse but then, I also feel no need to defend either one.

That’s, I think, the problem here. You seem to have some need to put out there that the Nazis weren’t as bad as communists. Ok, whatever. That’s what you believe for some reason.

That’s just bizarre to me but then, I come from a time when both communists and Nazis were universally reviled by the average American. No, you’ve made your point quite clear. The Nazis, in your opinion, weren’t so bad as the communists. We obviously fought the wrong side in WWII.

Then I would stop you there because you would be deflecting from the question. If you HAD to chose one or the other, which would you prefer? Regardless of your answer, would you be "rehabilitating the other?"

During WWII, regarding Russia, it was one of those "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situations. Nobody particularly liked Stalin. Not Churchill, nor Roosevelt. They just worked with him for a common cause. But even Hitler did not like him, and there was always a plan after the war to deal with Stalin afterwards. So when you have Roosevelt, Churchill, and Hitler not liking Stalin, you know he was really bad. The only thing keeping Stalin in check was the atomic bomb. We have not even gotten into China, North Korea, Vietnam, and Cuba. Even Japan had a beef with Russia after the Russo-Japanese war.

Oompa: Who do you think would put you into a camp quicker: Nazis or Communists?

Apparently, the "Black Book of Capitalism" suggests that there have been about equal number of deaths attributable to capitalist persuits and communist.

Stalin was a bad dude. That's prolly why they didn't like him. Fascinating you made specific mention that "nobody liked Stalin" and not "nobody liked communism"....

It’s a stupid question.
If you HAD to chose one or the other, which would you prefer? Regardless of your answer, would you be "rehabilitating the other?"
Yes you would. If I say one is worse than the other, I’m also saying one is better than the other. I disagree with the entire premise.

So what you are trying to tell me is that during the cold war, the entire western world was only fighting against Stalin this entire time? Not communism? Vietnam was fought to spite a ghost?

Capitalism is an economic system. Communism is a political system. Most countries today economically have some capitalism and some socialism.

Capitalism and communism are both political and economic systems. In a purely capitalist country, you'd have some sort of oligarchical government, where those with the most money controlled all of the power. In a purely communist country, wealth would be evenly distributed, with power controlled by everyday citizens.

Neither of those systems is a good/realistic thing, which is why we see combinations.

But now, I'm just saying it's interesting that you wrote stalin instead of communism.

*Sarcasm* Wow, more madness. This is why I hate politics.
Politics is a “necessary evil”, I’ll grant you, and while “not participating“ is an option it’s not a very good one.
