  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

2 Corinthians 4:13 And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written,
“I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak.
There is only One Faith
Ephesians 4:
4
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
The Faith of the Son rests in His Father
John 14:1
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
If we believe in Christ, we have the faith of Christ
Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Saving Faith is Living Faith of Christ
Luke 17:
5
And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree,
Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
More Faith, or Less Doubt?
Matthew 21:21
So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt,
you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain,
‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done.
22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Many times I have seen believers manipulate scripture with translational slight of hand and claim that Galatians 2:16 says “faith in Christ” rather than the faith of Christ. If you doubt, you will sink. If you do not doubt, you have all the faith needed to “walk as He walked”.
Matthew 14:
28
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink
he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him,
“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?

Jesus often addressed His Disciples as “ye of little faith”. He was not disparaging them, He was informing them, and us, that our measure of faith may seem small, it is more than enough, as one who has confidence in the One God and Father, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

I think Jesus was admonishing them that they should have more faith.

Matthew 8:26
He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

Matthew 14:31
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Matthew 16:8
Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread?

Matthew 17:20
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

I think Jesus was admonishing them that they should have more faith.
How so? How would they attain more faith?
Perhaps by exhorting one another. Hebrews 10:25
Luke 17:
5 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree,
Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
More Faith, or Less Doubt?
What do you think of the disciples request then?
Do you think that most Christians today would be addressed
as "ye of little faith", or something other?
What is the remedy?

More Faith, or Less Doubt?
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

Jesus was telling his apostles that their faith was even less than the size of a mustard seed. They were each given a greater measure of faith than what they were using. Luke 12:48, Mark 9:24

Romans 12:3
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

Which request?
Yes.
Obedience.

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

I think the best thing to do is to ask for what you want and then to pray that God's will be done rather than your own will. Luke 22:42

How much faith is required to believe and be saved?
Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

God gives each person enough faith to be saved if he chooses to seek God. Luke 11:9-11

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard “delay,” but he is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

I haven't been able to uproot and replant a tree in the sea. Happily and thankfully, I don't need to do this in order to be saved. :)
