  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Former CNN host Don Lemon likened his recent participation in the disruption of a Minnesota church service to Jesus Christ overturning the tables in the temple and implied during a podcast earlier this week that the outraged congregants were white supremacists.

"Jesus turned the tables over in the temple, right? He flipped the tables because He was tired of them not doing what they're supposed to do in His Father's house, and not living up to the tenets of Christianity," Lemon said during a glitchy interview on the liberal "I've Had It" podcast Monday.

Lemon accompanied a group of anti-ICE agitators as they interrupted the Sunday church service at Cities Church, a Baptist congregation in St. Paul, to protest that one of its pastors also serves as the acting director of the ICE St. Paul field office.

Minnesota's capital region has been roiled in recent weeks by protests against federal officials after two ICE-involved shootings, including the death of 37-year-old Renee Good, whose name protesters chanted in the face of churchgoers.

My thoughts on the article:

Though I do not agree with the tactics of storming a congregation during worship, using God's name in vain during that worship is much, much worse.

And Don is using God's name for the disruption is the same. Or are you talking about what the part-time preacher said?

This is my full comment:

Self explanatory.

Easy for you to say, I take it you don't have ADHD?

Did the assistant preacher say something during worship? What was it?
Living in contradiction violates the Third Commandment because it attaches the holy name of God to unrighteous conduct, rendering that witness empty and "vain." Titus 1:16, "They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work." When a person uses their spiritual authority to mask "flesh-driven" or cruel actions, they misrepresent the Father’s character and treat His identity as a tool for personal or worldly agendas.
The main contradiction here is the associate pastor of course. An ICE acting director promoting the DHS cruel tactics while being under their employment and simultaneously preaching to love one another is just plain hypocritical.
It is remarkably coincidental that on January 18, 2026—the very day the protests occurred—the sermon at Cities Church was titled "Love One Another." A three tiered system was preached adding the distinction between "neighbor-love" and "family-love" based on a concept called Ordo Amoris, or the "Order of Love."
This is in direct opposition to the Gospel and clearly highlights the mandate of this church. If we are to follow in His footsteps, there is no order in which one loves one another.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16 (NKJV).

There is an order of love and it only mentions two types, not three and Jesus Christ of Nazareth establishes it clearly in Matthew 22:37-39:
"Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’"

This congregation seeks to add a third in direct violation to the Fathers will thus using His name in vain. It is woefully misleading to the congregation at best and down right anti Christ like at worse.

Pastor Paul Chappell, senior pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church, echoed that sentiment, seeing the disruption as both a violation of religious freedom and an act of “spiritual warfare.”
“The book of Hebrews commands Christians to gather and assemble,” he said, citing Hebrews 10:25. “As I saw protesters wearing profanity on their shirts and hats, I realized that this was also, as Ephesians 6 describes, a matter of spiritual warfare. We have an adversary who seeks to discourage people from obeying God’s commands.”

ALL humans violate the Ten Commandments; this is the reason for Jesus, isn't it? We all violate this commandment: 8 Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor <--- (right-wingers and those that don't think like you), and how can you accuse someone if you don't know him, unless this is tribal warfare. We all do this, so how can we be hypocrites and accuse others biblically unless there is hierarchy in the laws of God?
his is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’"
Amen! Make me wonder why we Christians are arguing politics with each other and making accusations.

Lemon has a point. It's difficult to square Christian ethics with participation in a paramilitary organization that terrorizes communities. On the other hand, church discipline should be handled with subisdiarity, ideally.

Interesting way to refer to law enforcement officers and enforcing the law.

I submit this is a difference of opinion that is unreconcilable. Just as an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War left his denomination because the church where he was a member saw taking up arms in the war as difficult to square with Christian ethics. He disagreed.
