CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ah yes, mate, though I hope you were not taking me literally. Because the evidentiary cards are stacked against the Flat Earth hypothesis, I felt that somebody should help them out, so I gave the best argument from direct observation I have ever heard, that from Tom McNamara, a PhD from MIT in electronics. ("The earth looks flat where I am. How about where you are?")
Any Flat Earther who can see the satire in McNamara's approach to the problem has some hope of understanding the difference between what in engineering we distinguish as incremental versus total variables representing physical quantities. Or in this case, any sufficiently small observer standing on a ball will see it as approximately flat around him anywhere on the ball. At any point on the ball, the surface of the ball around the point can be approximated by a plane tangent to it. The earth is a ball. And planes are flat. Therefore, limit theory in calculus can be applied to the physical world ... Any Flat Earther who does not understand this can continue to believe that the earth is flat.
