  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have no idea where to put this: Owning two cars as a Christian

I dont really know where to put this, but I wanted to know, I drive a 2013 Rav4 LE. Pretty basic car. Its my run around, good speed, good reliability, good in pretty much any weather.

However, ive recently bought myself a second car, a "fun" one if you will. A 1992 Daihatsu Hijet Climber. Look them up, its not a fast car, it tops out at 70kmh. I just think theyre adorable, and I hope to honestly keep her forever. But now im wondering...is it sinful for me to own two cars? I dont NEED the '92, its purely a pleasure car and an oddity.

No. Why would you think it was?

Was it sinful for Job to be rich? Did he NEED 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 oxen and 500 donkeys? I'm gonna say no... Being rich isn't sinful. Going on vacations, owning multiple homes, owning multiple cars, even owning an Island isn't sinful. God expects us to still be a good steward with what he has given us, no matter how much or how small it is. Help the poor, look after people, spread his word, etc. But just because you own multiple cars, isn't sinful in the slightest. Have a whole warehouse full of million dollar cars, its fine. Just don't neglect what God has called us to do as we are servants of Him.

It's fine. I used to own a car and a motorcycle.

A 1992 Daihatsu Hijet Climber looks like a wonderful little truck. Enjoy it, use it, and thank God for it.

I tend to be very stringent on these matters but I don't see anything extravagant here.

You seem to keep your vehicles for a long time and the little truck seem like a cheap purchase and may even be more reliable on snow than Rav4.

Japanese cars can be extremely reliable and those from the 90's and early 2000's are simple and cheap enough to maintain on your own. If anything, you'll probably end up spending less money than someone who bought 1 car new.

Hello Harley,

Your question reminded me of one scripture:

John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” (Luke 3:11).

Not saying you legalistically need to do one thing or another, just thought this scripture might be interesting for some thought or prayer. God Bless :)

Jas 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

James writes those of Israel that trusted in the Messiah that they would have difficulty in having prayers answered because their desire is to satisfy themselves.

There can be application today for Christians. The extent to which we seek to satisfy our own pleasures can be a measure of how far we are from our Lord. However, this can also be seen with out use of time. Most of us would rather watch a favorite TV program than pray for someone we know.

Each person has to chose how much of our time and money we allocate for ourselves or others.

If you give one to someone, the person might not have money to keep it going right.

You can use either vehicle to help people, while you take care of them, which someone else might not be able to do.

People might tend to be more competent to care for a coat and some food. A car or truck could be another item. But it does take money to pay for maintenance and taxes and other stuff; so how you invest money is good to do well.

"He who loves his life will lose it," Jesus says in John 12:25.

So, it's what you make it, how you take it, don't try to fake it :)

well see, I was praying to God thanking him for his provision of the truck and I got this weird "knowing" in my gut mid prayer. It wasnt words, but just the knowledge of a voice saying something akin to "that wasnt my provision" and that I shouldnt have the truck. And now im unsure on where to stand.

Why on earth does anyone think its a sin to own two cars? Unless you think you are being too materialistic? The Bible doesn't have anything to say on this topic.

I do yes! One of the main reasons why im asking this actually. While my OCD is mostly undercontrol now, I do still struggle discerning what is and isnt it.
Sounds like you are having a flare up. Don’t entertain it. It’s fine to have two vehicles.

Probably is my best option, I just didnt wanna disregard the gut feeling or whatever it is you wanna call it, in case it was God. Being a Christian with OCD is ROUGH

I’m sure it is. But remember we serve a merciful God. Trust His grace more than your gut. Tons of Christians have 2 vehicles. It’s not a big deal. :)

Hello Harley. No. Just thought the scripture reference might be of interest to you. If you ever come across a believer with a desperate need of a car but can't afford one and you have one surplus to needs, God might provide through that. God Bless :)
