  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Texas’s new immigration‑enforcement law hit the state like a shockwave this morning, wiping out any remaining sanctuary‑style defiance by ordering every county sheriff to partner with ICE formally. The mandatory 287(g) crackdown is designed to hard‑wire deportation cooperation into every jail from the Panhandle to the Rio Grande.

It's surprising that legislation was needed for this common-sense policy, which highlights the divide on immigration. While I disagree with today's conservative stance on immigration, I believe undocumented immigrants who commit crimes and are in U.S. jails should be promptly deported.

One of the reasons local LEOs went along with the sanctuary cities business--though you might wonder why they would do such a thing.--was that ICE had a reputation for incompetent thuggery and the cops didn't like working with them. For instance, if cops in a sanctuary city dermine that an arrestee is an illegal aliens they notify ICE. If they release the subject without charge or at the completion of any sentence and ICE still hasn't shown up to get the individual, the cops will let them go, because they have no other legal reason to hold them and it's expensive and troublesome to hold people with no charge against them, sometimes for weeks.

I disagree. It will only encourage people to sneak in here and committ more crimes, knowing that if they are caught they will get free ticket home instead of facing justice.

What's the solution—should taxpayers fund jail time for undocumented immigrants because the border isn't secure?

If they have committed an actual crime here then they should be judged and punished here. Why should they escape just punishment for their crimes just because they are in the country illegally?

It’s my understanding that typically they do their sentence here with deportation at the end of their sentence.

Do you think U.S. taxpayers should spend $44,000 a year to detain an undocumented immigrant rather then sending them back?

Do you think is fair for the victims to give them a pass by just sending them home?

This kind of black-and-white perspective by each side is the reason we cannot reach compromise on legislation. Do you believe every felony has a victim? For undocumented immigrants who commit serious crimes like rape or murder, where victims require healing, I understand taxpayers supporting incarceration. However, do you think an undocumented immigrant who is a drug dealer or commits other victimless crimes should be immediately deported?

I am going to disagree. Even drug dealing is not a victimless crime. It’s not just the drugs they sell that causes death and mayhem in prople’s lives but the selling of drug enterprises also promote other crimes like theft. Secondly drug dealers are quite protective of their territories which fuels violence. So, yes, I believe that behind most felonies there are victims.

No. It teaches them that they can commit crimes here without facing punishment.

Are people with pending criminal charges being deported without any consequences for their crimes?
Grok?
No, illegal immigrants (undocumented non-citizens) with pending criminal charges are not systematically deported without facing consequences for their crimes, though deportation can occur before criminal cases fully resolve, potentially limiting prosecution.

Which is why I oppose it as a systematic policy. Even if a person is found guilty and is then deported he still escapes punishment.

I believe that holding them without charges is unconstitutional?

No. It teaches them that they can commit crimes here without facing punishment.

Isn't that essentially the same argument made by the Trump administration and its supporters regarding mass deportation? They claim that those who entered the US without legal status should be deported because they broke the law, and enforcing strict immigration laws will deter future illegal entry.
