  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, recently told Fox News that he believes the “lie of socialism” is one of the main reasons for a resurgence in church attendance among Millennials and Gen Z.

Millennial is the term used to describe the generation of those born between 1981-1996 and Gen Z describes those born between 1997-2012.

“I think it’s socialism,” Graham answered without hesitation. “I think Gen Z and Millennials have been fed the lie of socialism, and socialism is basically anti-God.” Graham believes that younger generations have “been turned off by” the idea of socialism, and “they’re asking themselves—there’s got to be something more.”

The Believers Share Their Possessions

Acts 4:32-35 (NIV)

32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.

33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all

34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales

35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

But Jesus said the poor would be with you always, and Paul said if you don't work you shouldn't eat; therefore, working together to meet common needs is from the devil. Also, Trump.

I think Christians misinterpreted it.

Because the most Christian nations in the world also one of the highest poverty rates, highest crime rates, highest corruption. Their politicians are also Christians. Their crime bosses are also Christians.

It's because of beliefs that makes you do nothing against injustice, evil, makes you support evil leaders, and the belief that prayers alone without works is sufficient.

The least religious nations are the opposite.

I've always thought that socialism was more in line with Jesus's teachings than a free market economy. I'm not talking about atheistic communism, but having a system which helps everyone at difficult times in their lives.

It's great that Millenials and Gen Z are turning to the Lord but I can't see that it is anything to do with socialism. I think it may be the lack of moral absolutes in atheistic belief which is causing them to seek God. Whatever it is, it's good news! Praise God!

Neither socialism, capitalism, marxism, feminism, wokism, conservativitism, fascism, humanism, utalitarianism, libertarianism, communism, environmentalism and all the other 'isms' and ideologies. Are of Christ or His church. Nor of Gods Kingdom. They are about human made kingdoms on earth. A substitute for Gods Kingdom.

All these ideologies draw on Gods moral laws and Christs teachings. They are not equivelant to Christ but borrow from Christ.

What is deceptive is that these ideologies hide behind these universal truths of God and then sneak in a whole philosophy about how to achieve these universal truths and morals.

So its deceptive to compare marxism or hard socialism or capitalism with Gods Kingdom or Christs teachings. It decieves people into thinking the ideology is ok because it aligns with some universal truth from God. When the entire package it comes in is of the world.

1) there's little evidence religion is growing among millenials and Gen Z. At best, there might be a levelling off of decline. Where I live, churches continue to shrink and close.

2) Graham hasn't strayed far from his father's Red-baiting ways. It was an anti-intellectual then as it is now. And it has nothing to do with serious Christian engagement with economic theory. It's merely an ideologue siding with reactionary voices.

That last quote is fairly accurate in describing the philosophy behind the Mont Pelerin Society which helped popularize neoliberal economics and politics in elite circles. And it's based on a fundamentally non-Christian anthropology that doesn't see human beings as social and relational beings, but isolated sovereigns. In that worldview, selfishness isn't a virtue, but a powerful engine for "freedom".
