  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Would God approve people living on other planets?

If in the future, we have the technology to colonize other planets. Do you think this would be possible? Or if God would want that?

Only very recently in human history have we been able to land on the moon and set foot on it, then send a robot to mars. Whats next?
We have been confined to Earth for most of human history, God gave the gift to mankind to be intelligent enough to travel outside the planet, is there anything in the Bible or that we know about God that says we can't live on other planets?

And we need to ask ourselves, why would we want to colonize mars?

My old (Presbyterian) pastor died in January 1992, although I left his church in September 1991 as I got married and moved away.

But we often talked in his office. At one point he said "I think God intends to drive us off the planet, and out into the universe". He added "I think we'll learn to teleport".

A few years after our discussion the first successful quantum teleportation experiments occurred.

The first successful quantum teleportation experiments occurred in 1997-1998, with groups led by Anton Zeilinger (Innsbruck, Austria) and Francesco De Martini (Rome, Italy) achieving the transmission of a photon's quantum state, demonstrating the principle using entangled particles, with Zeilinger's group publishing first in Nature in late 1997, followed closely by the Rome team in Physical Review Letters in 1998, paving the way for future quantum communication advancements.
I realise we're a long way from teleporting material objects, and the far more difficult issue of living beings with non-material souls, but I think we'll get there eventually.

Back in 1926 Dr. Robert Goddard's rockets flew about 41 feet (telegraph pole height). In 1941 they flew about 9000 feet. Three years later, using his research in part, German V2's flew about 330 to 350 kms to bombard London.

In 1957 Spunik circled the earth; in 1969 NASA landed men on the moon; and in 2012 and 2018 Voyagers 1 & 2 exited the solar system.

It took 86 years for rocketry to progress from telegraph pole height to the edge of the solar system.

Now we have AI, robotics, self driving cars, aircraft which largely fly themselves, limited quantum computation, and a global internet village.

We also have significant environmental stresses and global warming; nuclear weapons by the thousand; unsettled foreign affairs and a Russian leader who has (for political gain) threatened to use nuclear weaponry; North Korea is a rogue nuclear agent and increasing its missile base; China is challenging the US for economic and military supremacy; Israel is believed to have nuclear weaponry while surrounded by essentially hostile states; and India and Pakistan now have about 170 warheads each, with Pakistan becoming more fundamentalist with every passing year

It's obvious God is allowing us to develop the technology, despite our inherent political stupidity.

But why would anyone want to go on very dangerous journeys in an extremely hostile environment?

I think He will allow us to wreck the planet ourselves with environmental overload and possibly nuclear war. We may have to live underground to survive in a world where "the sun burnt men's skin with its rays". He may add to the mix by "doing something to the sun" which was another scenario posed by the pastor.

Revelation 16:8 "Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was given power to scorch the people with fire. 9And the people were scorched by intense heat, and they cursed the name of God, who had authority over these plagues."

I hope I'm wrong of course, but the ways things are going I'm not hopeful.

To answer the OP's question, I think God intends to drive us off the planet.

As for not being in the Bible, neither are computers, heavier than air flight, most of the world's current nations, the UN, the internet, nuclear weapons. supersonic flight, MRI's, or quantum teleportation, but they all exist.

As for God being a softie and He wouldn't do such a thing, it doesn't matter if we're creationists or old earthers, He's already allowed either the "Flood" or successive waves of natural catastrophes to destroy 99% of all species that have been on earth at some time.

He allowed the Black Death to destory millions of lives and didn't seem to do anything to stop it.

I have a problem sometimes with our Christian mantra of "God is Love". Even the old pastor said to me once "Sometimes I wonder if it's true. He seems to write people off pretty easily".

So I'm a bit of a cynic. I also think God INTENDS to drive us off the planet.

God would probably not want us to inhabit another planet if we're going to treat it like we do this one.

Why would God object? The subject is never mentioned in scripture.

God owns all of creation and can and is fully capable of doing what He wants.

Elon is unsure about how we came about ... regardless whether colonization of Mars comes to fruition or not ... in the process there will likely be things that are developed that will likewise benefit mankind on earth in the process of the pursuit.

Personally I think the Lord will return before that happens .... but who knows?

The Bible doesn't confirm or deny life on other planets; it emphasizes God's power, humanity's uniqueness (made in His image), and Earth's special role in His plan,

Your question fields at least this theological concern. If a human lived on another planet would Satan have any influence there?
Revelation 12:9 (ESV)
9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Deceiver of the whole earth, or world? If world does not include other planets, a man not born again would still have a sin nature, but if living in another planet, perhaps there is no demonic involvement at all? It would be an interesting experiment to see if even the space station has demonic involvement.

It seems like man will press the boundaries of earth plus cultivate potential resources from other planets so I think when the tech is there will be visits and maybe occupation of other planets. Of course God could thwart any successful attempts in all kinds of ways.

barren rocks (like the moon and mars) in our own solar system are not a problem.

People touch rocks all the time, no matter if that is the first time a human has ever touched that rock before or not. It poses no problem for Christianity.

In the Bible God quarantined sin and rebellion. We are it. It does not exist anywhere else in the universe according to Rev 12

Evidence that we will never colonize another planet.
  1. Creation.
    1. God created the earth specifically for man.
    2. God created man to live on the earth.
  2. Sin.
    1. As was pointed out in a previous post, Satan and the fallen angels are bound to this earth. So are we.
      1. Have you noticed the hostile environments of space?
        1. The Van Allen radiation belt that surrounds the earth.
        2. All of the other planets in our solar system.
        3. The speed with which objects travel through space, radiation in space, etc.
      2. Have you noticed that we can't find life on other planets?
    2. Our isolation from heaven and God's unfallen creation.
      1. Man used to commune directly with God and the angels. We are isolated from heaven because of sin. Sin corrupts.
      2. If we are isolated from heaven, it stands to reason that we are also isolated from all of God's unfallen creation until sin can be dealt with.
  3. Science concerning space and the universe (God's creation) continues to be confounded.
    1. The Artemis program to go back to the moon. "NASA’s Artemis program has been plagued by long delays, cost overruns and surprise problems." -Scientific American
    2. The James Webb discoveries and what science thought it knew about the universe.
  4. The second coming.
    1. Jesus is going to return to the earth specifically.
    2. The first death (sleep in the grave awaiting resurrection) is specific to the earth. Resurrection is specific to the earth.

The site has some problems, but this is a response to Freth or anybody else who is interested.

Everything you wrote is true, but I don’t think that astronauts floating in space will miss the second coming of Christ. They might have a unique view. As for colonies on Mars or the moon, I suspect that Jesus will return before that. If not, God will deal with it with no problem. If Satan can’t travel to other planets, humans will take their sinful natures with them.

We have everything on earth, and yet there is lots of people barely surviving, i don't think is viable to go on another planet.
This is the reason why.

1 John 15:19
And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

Ironically, what AI told me that even if only 10% of Christians actually did what Jesus teaches, world poverty would be greatly alleviated. Not completely eliminated but greatly mitigated.

At some point, poverty will eventually cease to exist if enough Christians followed Jesus. Speaking of Christians only, and this does not include other religious groups nor non-religious groups.

Jesus said, the poor will always be with you, but He didn't say we shouldn't try fixing it.
