  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A reminder, as our conversation proceeds, that according to the rules for this forum, we may not discuss the morality of same-sex relationships in the Junk Drawer forum. "Is this video an accurate portrayal of LGBT-affirming churches?" is an acceptable question for discussion, but "Are same-sex relationships morally acceptable?" is not. See https://www.christianforums.com/threads/the-junk-drawer-statement-of-purpose.8016184/
I understand. My point is sin is anything that separates us from God. Look at David, Moses, both Murderers. God still had a plan for them. The best place for any sinner to be is in Church. I'm a Catholic at heart. I bet many here have issues with that.

The idea of an "LGBT church" seems odd to me. Our church is happy to have LGBT members, but it's not like LGBT issues get mentioned in worship or activities. Someone visiting us would know that we're mainline, but at least from the worship service they wouldn't know we accept LGBT people. (You would know it from our web site.)

I had assumed the same was true of conservative churches. Mainline churches typically use a lectionary or do something like work their way through a Gospel, to make sure they cover the whole range of topics important to Christians. I was assuming that conservative churches did that as well. How often would attitudes towards LGBT be relevant?

Actually, this is the first time I have ever heard of an LGBTQ+ church. So imagine my surprise when you posted that video. I didn't even know they existed! They must be pretty rare! :openmouth:

I was not brought up in one of those. Nope, I'm a Baptist. Always have been. I think we are one of the more conservative denominations? I don't think my church would really allow us to practice homosexuality to be honest. Everyone here thinks its a sin. And it is.

I haven't but I've been to a gay bar. The reason they have to start their own church because they feel unwelcomed in ours.
The bible is for Christian teaching but we have let the whole world know what sin is.

I just watched this video and was left a bit shocked. Has anyone ever been to one of these Churches? If so, would you say it’s accurate?

I attended a fully LGBT church / gay church to see what their services are really like and share the biblical gospel. In this video, I walk through the entire service — from the songs and preaching to the activities — and share my honest reflections on what I experienced. I also had a conversation with the pastor about what they truly believe and how they interpret Scripture.

No, I haven't been to one of those churches.

If you mean churches with a rainbow decoration on the cross, and a faith statement saying they accept ideas from all religions, that would be fairly rare. If you mean churches that accept gay members and officers, they are a minority, but a substantial one. If you want to know why, here are survey results. Surveys often don’t ask the questions I wish they would. But a majority of Christians in the US accept gay people By some definition of accept. Not so much transgender people. Religion and views on LGBTQ issues and abortion

How this affects churches is complex. Church policy often doesn't agree with their members. The clearest difference is Catholics, where the church rejects the morality of same-gender sex and transgender identity, but most members are OK at least with gays, and also many priests. (This won't be visible in the Catholic forum here, by the way.) In the other direction, conservative Protestant church leaders are usually more convinced than their members that it's immoral. However I get the impression that LGBT affirming members in conservative churches likely don’t talk about in church, so you wuoldnt know it. Any church of substantial size almost certainly has gay members, no matter what their official position is.
