  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I agree that the atom bomb is extremely bad, and tanning beds and asbestos have been found to have serious health risks, but why do you include margarine and microwaves?

Asbestos
Asbestos is a mineral that has has been used in various forms from the time of the Greeks and Romans. If it's loose and can form dust, it's a problem. If it's not, it's inert. I once passed on a house with an asbestos shingled roof not from fear of exposure, but from the cost of removal and disposal when it had to be reshingled. Asbestos shingles solid. Manufacture and cutting them could cause problems, but otherwise the fibers are going nowhere. The question then is what invention using asbestos was a bad idea, not asbestos itself.

Microwaves are also an open question. It's just a part of the electromagnetic spectrum between 300 MHz and 300 GHz. That gives them a wavelength from about 1 meter down to about 1 millimeter. They can form naturally, or be used in communications and radar. They can also be used in cooking. Like asbestos, the question is which invention that utilizes microwaves are a bad idea.

UV lamps, including tanning beds, have been used to treat some skin conditions.

Margarine isn't necessarily bad, and butter contains fats, too.

If it wasn't for the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, I probably wouldn't be here. My father would have been in ground forces in the invasion of Japan. So would many of my uncles and men I grew up knowing. Given the casualties at Okinawa, odds are they wouldn't have come home. And how long would it have been after WWII before the US and USSR had fought if it hadn't been for MAD?

Margarine contains harmful fats where as butter is natural & as for microwaves, who wants to eat nuked food ?

Good post, you are right there are still a few uses for asbestos, but in general we would have been better off to not use it at all. I can say that because you can go to a place like Libby, Montana and see the results from the mining of asbestos. Of course now, they know how to mine it safely, and again a few applications are still in use because they are ones that pose no real threat of the fibers being fractured and inhaled.

Margarine depends on what it's made from. Butter has to be made from whole unhomogenized milk. As to natural, nightshade is natural, but poisonous. Microwaves heats by increasing motion of water, fat, and sugar molecules or the lining of special coatings, and doesn't increase the radioactivity of food.

The fat in butter is harmful if too much is eaten. You can get reduced fat margarines, too. Microwaves don't work by by nuclear power, so microwaved food isn't "nuked".
