Certain mainstream media outlets, pundits, and lawmakers have been suggesting that theories about Epstein having ties to intelligence communities are mere "conspiracy theories".
Why are National Security and counterintelligence personnel involved with the redactions?
CNN decided to bite the bullet and at least acknowledge it (even if it was just a mere blip in the article)
It’s surprising to many national security law specialists that that’s who’s doing the work, given the division’s historical emphasis on classified matters
The national security lawyers aren’t among the Justice Department division that classically handles document processing, or even sex crimes or conspiracies, as had been alleged of the late Epstein and his convicted paramour Ghislaine Maxwell.
Yeah, it sure is "surprising"
Typically, redaction tasks on case files like these might fall to civil divisions, FOIA legal experts, or records management teams — not primarily National Security or counterintelligence personnel.
I don't recall National Security personnel and counterintelligence teams getting roped into the Harvey Weinstein or Diddy cases.
