  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

No, air conditioning isn't common in Australian churches. No church I've worked in, or regularly worshipped in, has had it. Generally cooling is some very ineffective fans (heating is better).

In the United States, air conditioning is common in all modern buildings, including Churches.

That's quite interesting.

I think I have been a member of a single church with air conditioning.

Our new service time is 11:00 am, and this week it was 40 degrees Celcius. I suggested to the Vicar that if we were going to have an 11:00 am service, perhaps we should have air conditioning as well!?

That’s quite surprising to me!
I think that maybe when I was a kid our church didn’t have AC because I remember the windows being open with a breeze blowing in. I know for sure the school attached had no AC.

Maybe AC has become more common over the years? I don’t know. Very interesting, though!

Yeah, but, again, let me remind you about that photo I posted on the last page. It's not for lack of heat that Australians don't prioritise air conditioning.

I think there is still a cultural twitch here - especially in churches - that air conditioning is something of a luxury. A sense that people ought to be resilient enough to cope with being in a hot building for an hour or so.

Now... I'd say that's debatable. I've had to call an ambulance for someone elderly who's collapsed in the heat. But I know that a lot of churches simply would not be willing to spend the money to install and run air conditioning.

There's always that one thing you realize you need for cooking at the last minute. Last night my daughters and I were making cookies when I discovered I was nearly out of foil. I dashed out this morning and got some while the stores are still open.

Yes, I discovered that I had run out of food gift bags this morning. A kitchen full of chocolates, nothing to put them in. I tried the shop, but everyone else had already noticed that they had run out themselves, so none left. I did manage to find a way to make do.

It is just not Christmas without some emergencies and at least one mistake.
