  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I asked - Does the ouroboros symbolize the encircling of the earth.

The answer;

AI Overview

Yes, in several ancient mythologies and belief systems, a world-encircling serpent or dragon that bites its own tail (an ouroboros motif) is a central figure.
True, but where is the connection between a mythogical snake that is supposed to encircle the earth, an Antarctica? Put it another way, how does the fact that there is a myth about a snake that encircles the world do anything to prove that Antarctica encircles the earth, as you keep claiming?

You see this gets me every time, to say the earth is moving and not the sun is to say that this verse is wrong in Joshua 10:13 the verse that says it all.

You would think they would just be honest and say they do not believe this account given in The Bible. Instead of hem-hawing around the account and say oh i believe Joshua 10, but!!!!!!!!

I mean they are not fooling God with their beliefs

It’s like trying to get a politician to answer a straight question
I had to look it up because I mix Hindu and Chinese mythology in my mind. In Hindu mythologies, the earth is supported by four elephants or a turtle. The elephants represent steadfastness and support. The turtle represents Earth's stability over time. When God talks about the foundations of the Earth in Job 38:4-7, He is giving insight into who He is, just like what Moses was doing. It is a construction metaphor to show steadfastness, support, and the earth’s stability over time. That is the concept human beings needed. It doesn’t help this thread, but I wanted to share it with somebody. I hope you don’t mind.

I fully believe that the Israelites saw the sun and moon stop, but I have no idea what God actually did.

Well like i added to that post. People are not fooling God with their beliefs. So why not honestly state what one believes about Biblical accounts.

This is exactly what God is saying. Scripture is all about Him, who He is and His plan and provision for our salvation. It’s not about how He created or how the universe works.

Anyone who tries to work out how His creation works by reading ideas into Scripture needs to go back to basics and learn about Him.

If anything, it's more likely to imply that flat earth is a satanic deception. Strange that some Christians appeal to pagan mythology to support their claims. Pagan snake = flat earth Antarctica.

I don't live in an ancient mythology - do you?

No, it's not. But you won't accept it.

Funny how verses in the Bible are allegorical when you want them to be but the rest of the time, everything has to be literal.

It is originally connected to the Egyptian god Ra and the cycle of flooding the Nile. It is also used in Gnosticism and Norse mythology (Jörmungandr). In Norse mythology, according to AI, “Jörmungandr represents chaos and transformation. His existence and actions are often interpreted as forces of nature, embodying the balance between order and chaos in the world.” By the way, the Norsemen didn’t believe in a flat earth or spherical earth. They were more interested in the various realms of beings. However, they did tend to think the moon was a ball. (This is my summary from AI’s convoluted text.) Anyway you look at it, ouroboros has nothing to do with flat earth, Judaism, or Christianity.

That’s how it appeared. You use that phrase whenever it suits you. You claim the sun never sets, it only appears to. So you can’t claim it isn’t a legitimate form of Bible interpretation.

It’s called Phenomenological language.

I do, i say any person who believes in a stationary sun with a rotating globe earth moving around the stationary sun. Does not believe the Joshua 10 account of God heading the voice of a man to stop the sun and moon

I believe that the sun did not set for 24 hours - the first 24 hour sun ever recorded was in the Bible.
This gave the Israelites continuous light and more time to win their battle and defeat their enemies, which is what they had prayed for.

Q. Was it literally the sun which was moving?
That's what it looked like from their perspective, but no one actually zoomed into space to witness that the sun had been moving but stopped when God made it stop.
The fact was, if God had said, "it's not the sun that moves, Joshua; the sun sets because the earth turns", I am certain that Joshua would have said "whatever - just don't let night come so that we have time to defeat our enemies."

That is what happened. God stepped in and suspended the laws of nature because Joshua had asked him to and so that Israel would defeat their enemies and know that God was for them and on their side.
That is the miracle; the God who is in charge has power even over nature and came make things happen because his people ask him to.

You are obsessing over little details and missing the miracle.
