  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will the world end one day?

I am learning more about the Bible.

What happens in the future? Where there be an eternity of people being on Earth then dying later to be judged or will there come a point where there is no longer a need to judge and either people are in heaven or hell. And there are no more people left for God to judge?

If that is the case, what happens next? Is it possible for another rebellion to occur and people get kicked out of heaven? Remember the angels rebelled from the very beginning.

Yes this current earth and heavens will end and be replaced with a new heaven and earth. But before that event happens, this age will end and the 1000 year rules of Jesus will happen with a restored earth that was ruined in the 7 year tribulation.

All good questions, which I've heard over the years. I believe angels and men began with free choice, but are given a time to make up their minds whether they will stay true to God or rebel against Him.

So, once mankind has gone through his mortal history, the placement of all men will be realized. Many will be in paradise with God forever on the earth. Many will be in outer darkness, wherever that is.

Some people believe the damned will experience the torment of Fire for all eternity. That's over the top for me. I believe in Eternal Punishment, but not in a literal fire burning human flesh for all eternity. Eternal Punishment is eternal separation from God, period--not a torture chamber!

We are told people are thrown into a fire forever. But to me that just means their place on an earthly paradise is removed forever, so that they are cast into outer darkness, away from the paradise on earth. Where that is I don't know?

But we are told several times in Scriptures that the earth is forever. And since God rested from His creation of the earth, I don't think He's going to start all over again. Rather, I think He will remake the earth, or remodel it, removing anything associated with temporality or sin.

We are not told things that won't benefit us while we remain in sin-infected mortal bodies. It would be too much for us to bear, or of littler concern with respect to our needs today. But it is an interesting thing to think about...

It will end

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

3 Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” 5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, 6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. 7 But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

2 Thess 1:6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

Jer 4:
23 I looked on the earth, and behold, it was formless and void;
And to the heavens, and they had no light.
24 I looked on the mountains, and behold, they were quaking,
And all the hills moved to and fro.
25 I looked, and behold, there was no man,
And all the birds of the heavens had fled.
26 I looked, and behold, the fruitful land was a wilderness,
And all its cities were pulled down
Before the Lord, before His fierce anger.

Rev 21: Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.

The Nicene creed has a one to one relationship with scripture and expresses a good summary of the considered theological reflection of the church. The future focused sentences include
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and His Kingdom will have no end...
look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come

So the key Christian focuses on the future are:

1) The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
2) Judgment Day of the living and the dead
3) God's everlasting Kingdom
4) The resurrection from the dead
5) The life of the world to come... a remade and perfect world to come in which we will have glorified resurrection bodies,

I think this universe will be swept out of existence. It adds up to nothing anyway, in that it is a sum zero energy universe.

Considering the amount of energy packed in the nucleus of a single uranium atom, or the energy that has been continuously radiating from the sun for billions of years, or the fact that there are 10^80 particles in the observable universe, it seems that the total energy in the universe must be an inconceivably vast quantity. But it's not; it's probably zero.

God made it from nothing; it adds up to nothing; and when He's finished with it it will disappear back to nothing. Energy can be neither created or destroyed, so if it started from nothing (except possibly some sort of quantum fluctuation) it's going to continue to add up to nothing.

What this "new earth" will be is in the too hard basket as far as I'm concerned. The impression I get is that God will dwell with His people, and He doesn't need a planet to do that.

There is also the image of the celestial city with streets of gold and all the other gadgetry. I don't bother thinking that one through, as the main business of life now is to keep short accounts with God. If we do that, the rest will take care of itself.
