  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Antichrist is making a comeback

It’s been about 50 years since the eyes of the world were aimed at the figure of the Antichrist through the movie, “The Omen.”

If you haven’t seen it, the film's plot follows Damien Thorn, a young child replaced at birth by his father, unbeknownst to his wife, after their biological child dies shortly after he was born. Soon afterwards, a series of mysterious events and violent deaths occur around the family, and as Damien enters childhood, his parents realize that he is the prophesied Antichrist.

Hollywood resurrected “The Omen” franchise last year with the release of “The First Omen,” a prequel that follows an American nun sent to work at a Catholic orphanage in Rome who uncovers a sinister conspiracy to bring about the birth of the Antichrist. If you’re a horror movie fan, the film is worth a watch.

I’m guessing that Peter Thiel has seen it.

A story in the Wall Street Journal recently profiled Thiel and said he “wants everyone to think more about the end of the world.” Unless you’re an extreme prepper, that’s not something most people do.

A Silicon Valley investor, entrepreneur, and hedge fund manager who co-founded PayPal and Palantir Technologies, Thiel has made headlines for his lectures, which cover, among other topics, the personality of the Antichrist. According to the article, “This is how Thiel says the end of the world might happen, according to a Wall Street Journal review of his recent lectures:

Explanatory note: Zane Hodges is a well respected teacher in evangelical circles. We hold no animosity toward this man and count him as a brother in Christ. For years he taught at Dallas Theological Seminary, and he is held in high esteem by many of his former students. He is also very influential in forming The Grace Evangelical Society (GES) which publishes a theological journal and newsletter. He has also authored numerous books. While recognizing the good that brother Hodges has accomplished for the cause of Christ, we are concerned about some of the teachings which he is promulgating. Here are some examples of his teachings which we find to be disturbing:

Following US power reverses in the 1970s, there was an eschatological craze. That a declining US could trigger isn't particularly flattering, but still happened. All sorts of opinions and books made the rounds. To this day, when I hear a discussion about Daniel's seventy weeks, my eyes start to glaze over. There was considerable interest in the Antichrist and people trying to figure out who the Antichrist was, assuming that the antichrist was already here at that time.

It turns out that's not anything new. I've forgotten his name, but there was one early church father who essentially said "Knock it off. No one is going to recognize the Antichrist until he's revealed."

I don't know if we should be obsessed with the Antichrist or not. I'm thinking our focus should be on Jesus of Nazareth, the real Christ who died on the cross for our sins and who God the Father raised from the dead.

Only John uses the term antichrist in the books of 1 John and 2 John.

So it can be seen when in this verse - Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

That antichrist are false prophets, plus John also tells the believer to test the spirits

By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

So the spirits that do not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. Are spirits of the Antichrist

But John capitalizes the Antichrist the one who is coming during the tribulation, but writes antichrist to the many now that are in the world. Who do not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh.

Seeing that John sees antichrist as false prophets, it can be seen that when John writes Revelation John does not use the term Antichrist, but uses false prophet.

Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.

So it can also be seen that the false prophet (the Antichrist) is the one who in Revelation 13 brings worship to the beast from the sea. So the false prophet who is the Antichrist John writes about in 1 John and 2 John is also the beast from the land in Revelation 13.

Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

So the Antichrist is the false prophet and also the beast from the sea, they are all the same person.
