Just for those not living in the US, such as myself: How does the government get shut down?
Republicans shut down government.
Disgusting. How do Democrats defend this?
That's a bald faced lie and you know it.Republicans shut down government.
She's a liar.
Disgusting. How do Democrats defend this?
Nope. Democrats are the minority they can't shut down the government. Dems didn't vote for the Republican bill and Republicans refused to vote for a compromise. Both sides are responsibleThat's a bald faced lie and you know it.
Just for those not living in the US, such as myself: How does the government get shut down?
Actually both parties shut down government because they overspent and refuse to raise the revenues to balance the budget. That is the truth. Since 1960 the debt limit has been raised 78 times. That's a bald faced lie and you know it.
Actually as a Christian I want everyone in the world to have the finest health care possible, that I would even fly poeple around the world to give best in care. However, since resources are limited I recognize that it is not possible. But on the other side of the coin, I am disgusted with Vance and his complaints that the USA paid for some illegals emergency room care at U.S. hospitals. I guess his belief is that hospitals should just not treat any illegal, even if it means they will otherwise die? How is that Christian thought? Perhaps next we will turn away those in prison? then those with chronic illnesses? then those that are elderly? Yes, we make choices, and the rich need more tax cuts to some of our Christian leaders. Seems like the love of mney has entered so-called Christian political thought. Should I pretend that God is pleased?Democrat lawmakers DO want to give illegal immigrants free Healthcare. Among other benefits like welfare. Which is unacceptable and unsustainable.
It came from the GOP.Just for those not living in the US, such as myself: How does the government get shut down?
That is entirely false. There are immigrants that are here legally and pay taxes which can receive certain benefits but the Democrats don't want illegals to receive benefits.Democrat lawmakers DO want to give illegal immigrants free Healthcare. Among other benefits like welfare. Which is unacceptable and unsustainable.
It is one thing for a Christian to use their money for charity. It's quite another for a Christian to use someone else's money for the same purpose. IF you want to form a charity for that purpose, that would be a noble cause. But on the other side of the coin, I am disgusted with Vance and his complaints that the USA paid for some illegals emergency room care at U.S. hospitals. I guess his belief is that hospitals should just not treat any illegal, even if it means they will otherwise die? How is that Christian thought?
Good questionJust for those not living in the US, such as myself: How does the government get shut down?
Great answerWe are at the end of a fiscal year. Congress is in charge of deciding how money will be spent in the next fiscal year. Congress has not been able to agree on a budget bill (or collection of bills) for the upcoming year. Spending cannot proceed until Congress passes a funding bill.
Republicans in Congress currently have a majority in both houses, but it's a slim majority. In divided times like this, Republicans in the Senate need 60 votes to get a bill passed. They don't yet have 60 votes; they'll need to persuade some Democrats to vote with them. At the moment, neither side is willing to compromise enough to get a bill passed.
Here's one summary: Why did the government shut down? Here's what's behind the funding lapse
That sounds more realisticActually both parties shut down government because they overspent and refuse to raise the revenues to balance the budget. That is the truth. Since 1960 the debt limit has been raised 78 times.
Another informative answerIt came from the GOP.
An old law that generally prohibits federal agencies from spending or obligating money without an appropriation from Congress, which forms the basis for government shutdowns, is the Antideficiency Act (originally passed in 1884).
President Reagan's administration began the modern practice of government shutdowns by implementing legal opinions from Attorney General Benjamin Civiletti in 1980 and 1981, which interpreted the Antideficiency Act to require agencies without funding to cease non-essential operations.
Antideficiency Act, was leveraged as a tool of political hardball and a way to exert presidential influence over the budget process. This marked the beginning of the modern era where government shutdowns became a recurring feature of U.S. budget battles.
I should add too that government can cut spending to balance the budget. I will edit that post.Good question
Great answer
That sounds more realistic
