  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Historically, not considering God Ruling,

the best thought of government was only a couple or a few times, benevolent dictatorships - best for the people, for their health, and more. Not taught in schools or most other places because deception and greed chooses what is taught.

Did that candidate face the voters in a general election before assuming office? I'd call that democracy in action. Unlike if, say, one person were appointed to the VP office, and then later succeeded a President who resigned, thus becoming President without ever participating in any election whatsoever. That could be considered an example of democracy not working, I suppose.


Unless one branch of government attempts to consolidate power and the other two branches chose to either capitulate to that power grab or become complicit in that consolidation.

I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.​

If he had any reasons for doing that beyond what he actually said, I'm not privy to that information.

And neither are you.

But, that minor point aside, do you have any comment on the unconstitutional consolidation of power by the Executive branch and the complicity or capitulation of the other two branches in that effort, and how that indicates that democracy in this country isn't currently working? Seems to me that was the major point.

This is not a democracy. The situation you mention, whether real or not, does not have a democratic function. It is that of a constitutional republic. The struggle between the three branches has been going on for 2 centuries and will likely continue (hopefully) for centuries more or as long as our nation exists.

Well, the US is a constitutional republic that elects its leaders through democratic means. That is often considered a democracy.

True enough. Consolidation of power in one individual is a function of authoritarianism, not that of a democracy or a constitutional republic.

Except that one branch of our government has consolidated power, while the other two have either capitulated to that consolidation of power or aided in it. Does that indicate to you that the system of government we've instituted is working?

Can you point to a time in US history when this type of consolidation of power occurred?
