  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does your prescription now cost $100? No problem. If you believe Trump, you will not only start getting it for free, but you will get paid $900 every time you get the prescription!

Because that is what a 1000% cut in prices means.

I went to get Crestor (generic) yesterday for the first time in 5 years. $9.01 for a 90 day supply. I'd say that is pretty cheap at 10 cents per pill. I'm sure it varies by the medication, but I'm happy with that price.

Agreed. I have not seen any significant changes in the price of my medications.

AMERICA’S COMPETING FOR-PROFIT PRIVATE HOSPITAL MODEL PREVENTS BULK TENDERS
The USA’s competing private hospital groups do not have the financial muscle to DEMAND a smaller-price-per-pill. They approach Big Pharma like Oliver, ‘Please sir - I would like some more!” But Big Pharma demands they buy brand name instead of generic, or extorts the hospital in higher costs even for generic.

Compare that to Australia - where half our hospitals are government owned and operated. This cost is shared between the Federal government and the States, but the Federal government co-ordinates massive tenders for medical kit and pills through our Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme - aka “The PBS”.

American big pharma HATE our PBS! The PBS not only demands generic where possible, but because it is THE Australian medical tender going to market - the PBS not only demands lower price per unit - but it demands RESPECT! They HAVE to get that tender - and have to seriously COMPETE with the other suppliers! (I thought that was the whole point of going to the market for something?)

And, predictably, under Trump’s self-serving MAGA philosophy - Big Pharma are getting in on the act and trying their luck. They complain to Trump about our PBS. Meanwhile - Australian’s enjoy VASTLY cheaper meds through the PBS.
US pharmaceutical giants urge Trump to put further tariffs on Australia

In those maybe 3% of cases when a medicine we need is not YET listed under PBS, people go home and hug their loved ones with tears in their eyes - and say “I had to pay AMERICAN prices!”

We already have a National Healthcare System, it floats on oceans and carries airplanes to foreign lands and blows up narco-drug boats.

In other words, people are dying from poor healthcare, but who cares? At least we can still blow-up fishing boats.

I’m on a medication that costs $42,000 every four weeks so this is really going to work out excellently for me.

Wait a minute.
What happened to Trump's EO to make sure Americans pay the lowest price offered in other developed nations for drugs?
Trump gave manufacturers 30 days, and then.....nothing.
There is even a bipartisan bill introduced in the Senate 4 months ago that has gone nowhere.
There's a Dem House bill (no GOP) of the same nature.
This is something that all Americans can benefit from that green hair lib to rural everyday MAGA hats now losing their local hospitals.

Why is this not taking precedent over more Hunter Biden investigations?

It makes no logical sense why medications manufactured in the United States cost Americans more than they are sold for overseas. In what world does that make sense?
In the world of the US version of “managed care”.

Why do people keep supporting Republicans? The left wing keeps being characterized as these capricious, baseless emotional haters but in reality we are just upset by facts and find him to be a really really terrible leader. And either really stupid or a liar that should NoT be representing other people.

1000010475.jpg

And he just talks like it's no big deal and his words mean nothing.

Do you not worry aabout America's credibility? I mean who is he talking to here? He's not saying this to people who know how to read.

He has two dichotomous lines right now:
"I love the poorly educated"
And
"Smart people hate me"

A world run by money/profits/false religions / greed.....
A world? Hmm - sure Australians are as hedonistic and materialistic as any other western nation. And yet the most I pay for any individual script on the PBS is under $40 a month. Occasionally we might need something off the PBS - but that's only maybe 5% of the time.

So we have:-
  1. A Federal PBS that bulk tenders to the market and demands generic (not expensive name brand!) where possible. It bulk buys medicines and medical equipment - bringing the cost down.
  2. Of our 700 hospitals, 51% are government OWNED and OPERATED for ALL Australians to access for life-saving healthcare. EVERY Australian can access these hospitals largely for free.
  3. EVERY Australian can see a specialist (with a bit of a wait) via their Medicare card. For free.
  4. Compared to Americans - Australian citizens go to the doctors more, go earlier, get diagnosed earlier, and treat the condition sooner - which has better outcomes but is also cheaper!
  5. We deliver UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE at HALF the price of America. Why can't America do it?
As you said - greedy for-profit hospitals have a perverse incentive to charge more. Government hospitals offer a public service - for-profit hospitals are businesses offering profits to investors. It's just a completely different mindset - and that perverse incentive should NOT be part of the basic healthcare a country needs.

It’s like this, the companies go to the countries and say “we want X amount of $s for these medications” and the countries negotiate a price they think “fair”.

Think of it as Americans “subsidizing” healthcare in other countries. They get cheaper drugs because the bulk of the pharmaceutical profits are back home, in the “rich” country.
And the world thanks you.

Why do people keep supporting Republicans?
Because Democrats are that awful. You'd think that the Democrat approval ratings would have said it all. You think Republicans are bad? You need to come to terms with the fact that Democrats are worse.

Insurance costs. Seriously, Over thirty years ago, was the last hospital patient on the doctor's round, and the doctor knew me and my family and would sometimes just talk. The doctor was a general practitioner, and I remember how on one visit the doctor said they would be dropping obstetrics. The reason was the cost of malpractice insurance for obstetrics. If it was that expensive over thirty years ago, what is it now?
