I’m an independent so don’t care much for Trump. You seem to have all the answers there in your post but I have a question since no one here has replied to my comments yet. How come California has 9 Republican congressional seats out of 52 total congregational seats when the voting party split is 40% Republican and 59% Democrat? I think I see some previous gerrymandering going on. At least Texas has 13 Democrats out of 38 seats. So if Newsom gets its way then the Republican seats will drop to 4 out of 52. I just love California’s definition of democracy.
Yup - the state is 40% Republican in voting who have a 7% representation and they think that is a fair representation.

Here is a thought - make the seats in the State houses truly represent the voters. - If one party is 45% of the voters -they should have 45% of the seats -

Illinois isn't any better, which makes it even more ironic that Texas democrats ran away to Illinois because they didn't like gerrymandering.
82% of their representation in Congress is democrats, while the Republicans only represent at 18%.
But in the 2024 election, 54.8% of the people voted for Harris, and 43.8% for Trump.
Looks like their representatives aren't very representative of the people after all.

Federal level
Congressional Delegation:
Total seats: 17
Democrats: 14 (82%)
Republicans: 3 (18%)
U.S. Senate: Both of Illinois' U.S. Senators, Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, are Democrats.

State level
Illinois General Assembly:
Total seats: 177
Democrats: 118 (66.7%)
Republicans: 59 (33.3%)
State Senate:
Total seats: 59
Democrats: 40
Republicans: 19

State House of Representatives:
Total seats: 118
Democrats: 78
Republicans: 40

Maybe for the same reason CA won't wait.
Texas didn't wait until 2031 because Texas redistricted before that? Kinda... Circular logic you got going there.

The Governor of Texas had a choice to make when asked to find 5 more seats. So did the Governor of Georgia when asked to find over 11k votes in 2021. One of these men failed their country.

To be exact with the president's quote: "We are entitled to five more seats."

Alas, we don't have a recording of a conversation between the president and Abbot, but it's obvious to everyone that Abbot is following the president's wishes.

Why? because it represents the voters fairly?
There are several reasons.

Congresscritters (or state legislators) are meant to represent a district. A place. So the residents of that place can bend their ears about local needs. A blenderized smoothie of all California is not going to give you that.

Voters currently vote for candidates for these offices. If all we know is that 40% of the people voted 'Republican', and therefore 40% of the pols are 'supposed to be Republican', how are the actual politicians determined? Presumably party bosses would assign them like party favors.

and if instead they are voted in by the - you know - voters. It certainly is not a fair representation when one party has 45% of the voters - but 7% of the representatives - that is one parry being under represented.

As soon as you figure out how that would work, go get moving on your Constitutional Amendment.

Can you not state whether you believe being under represented is fair or unfair -

New Mexico:

Voters 44% Republican - Representatives - 0

Hmmm......
Although the 3 districts were redrawn after the 2020 census, they're not significantly different from what NM had the last ten years, when the voters chose republicans for at least one seat most of the time.
