President Donald Trump on Friday followed through on his threat to sue media mogul Rupert Murdoch after his Wall Street Journal published an article saying that Trump sent his then-friend Jeffrey Epstein a “bawdy” letter for Epstein’s 50th birthday.

Trump, who angrily denies writing the letter, is seeking damages of no less than $10 billion in the lawsuit alleging defamation.

Named as defendants in the suit in federal court in the Southern District of Florida are Murdoch, his company News Corp

and its CEO Robert Thomson, the Journal’s publisher, Dow Jones & Co., and the two reporters who wrote the article published Thursday evening.

A Dow Jones spokesperson sent the following statement to CNBC: “We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit.”

No matter how it turns out, should be good news for most Americans.

Isn't Murdoch the owner of Fox News? This is strange. Trump has made this a bigger problem than it needs to be. It's irrational. Ha! I say that like it's not the norm, but this is special. He's clearly afraid. Poor Trump, he's not very smart, and he's most likely guilty of something we don't already know.

Trump is raking in big money by suing any breathing thing that comes in his orbit with the truth. Strange days .

Thank you. If you mess with the son, you mess with the father? In general, I think it's really odd how Trump is acting. I mean, we all think he's guilty of horrible stuff, right, but he's also acting like it. This is new. The facade of always winning seems to be cracking in his own mind.

I think he has always acted odd about some things. Sometimes I wonder what he is thinking when he says and does things

This doesn't seem especially peculiar? Maybe it's just me, but he seems to be doubting himself. He's in panic mode and clearly making a big thing out of what should be nothing. His MAGA crowd will go along with anything he says. They want Epstein files, and in under normal circumstances, he would give them because it ensures his power. But now he's balking. This is very good, I think, for those who don't lick the boot.

He ordered all grand jury testimony in the case to be released to the public.
Suing people is SOP for him so I don't know that he's acting so much different than usual.
He's done a lot of things that made me scratch my head

That's true, and this could just be greed. That is a live possibility. But what is revealed in a grand jury testimony? How does it compare to the whole record (redacted appropriately) being released to the public? This could be a way to avoid the release of too much information while also making money. Or, it could just be a diversion in hopes that public sentiment will sway to, "Poor Trump is having to fight a partisan court once again."
