Not really, but……

Before Joseph Smith was killed, he had designated his son to take over the church on several occasions, but he was only a teenager when JS died. When JS died, the church fractured in at least 16 factions with Brigham Young’s faction being the largest. Many of the factions reunited a few years later into what became the RLDS.

yes, Emma Smith refused to go west with BY, no, she wasn’t the driving force.
That's quite interesting history.

If it means anything to this specific forum, shortly after JS started the church, a Campbellite minister (Sidney Rigdon) read the Book of Mormon and believed it and converted and brought his whole congregation with him into the early church. And his beliefs were what became the beliefs of the church, and indeed, they are what became the beliefs of the RLDS church (along with the Book of Mormon.)

Interesting. I wasn't aware he had connections to the Campbellite movement.

You learn something new everyday!

I wonder if those in the Community of Christ today still consider themself a Mormon denomination or believe in the so called prophecy of Joseph Smith and Book of Mormon. Hmmm?

Yes, they still consider themselves part of the Mormon lineage.

The RLDS/Community of Christ has gone through several splits. As the church leadership took the church towards a more modern, liberal position, they first silenced those priesthood that remained conservative and true to Joseph Smith. Soon after that, feeling that they were no longer welcome, the majority of the conservative members left, splintering the church. They became known as Restorationists. That left the church to mostly leave Joseph Smith behind though there are 4 conservative, Joseph Smith believing congregations left in the church and because the church is almost destitute at this point in time, they tolerate it. When they made the decision that they didn’t want or need the conservatives they signed their own death warrant.
