WASHINGTON — Speaking before an Evangelical political conference, President Donald Trump's spiritual advisor Paula White-Cain, a Florida televangelist who helps lead the White House Faith Office, claimed the president's survival of an assassination attempt last year was "God's sovereign divine miracle" and far from a "coincidence."

White, the Charismatic movement leader who co-founded Without Walls International Church in Florida and led the Trump evangelical advisory board during his 2016 campaign, spoke to a crowd of Christian conservative activists gathered at the Faith & Freedom Coalition's 2025 Road to Majority Conference in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

Delivering her speech alongside White House Faith Office's Faith Director Jennifer Korn, White reflected on the unsuccessful July 2024 assassination attempt against Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Well, that's certainly going to be controversial. Some have the idea that God's intervention indicates favor, and those who dislike Trump are going to object to Trump's survival of the assassination attempt is Divine providence. Yet we know God controls all things, and the idea that God spared Trump shouldn't be controversial. That says nothing about whether God approves or disapproves of Trump, only that it was God's will to spare him and it fits His purpose. Just what that purpose is who can say unless God reveals it.

Right. Ms. White may have good intentions and thoughts on this matter, but the country's supposed spiritual leader really should know the difference between a miracle and Divine providence.

This perspective lacks real, genuine spiritual discernment. Not all that glitters is gold, and not every wonder is a sign of divine providence or blessing. Sometimes it can be a sign of judgement.

You sure He hasn't revealed it? I mean even with a character like Donald's with faults like any other, He has handed him some tools that are what I consider to be, strikingly appropriate. Which should reel-in that controversy.

One could go overboard and claim that's like saying God saved Hitler from his close call assassination attempt. So while it's okay to thank God that Trump survived, I think it's unwise and presumptuous to proclaim what God's devine plan is along those lines. One could also pretty safely say that God spared Trump for reasons that only God knows.
