U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval ratings are significantly higher among Christians than among the religiously unaffiliated, according to a poll by Pew Research released to coincide with Trump’s first 100 days in office.

Trump’s approval rating continues to be highest among white evangelical Protestants, while Catholics are almost split at 42%, according to the poll.

Across the board, Christians gave Trump a higher approval rating than nonaffiliated Americans by more than 20 percentage points (48% versus 26%, respectively).

The approval rating for President Donald Trump among Christians is also 8 points higher than among U.S. adults overall.

Sure, because in the USA, political conservatism is tied with religion. And vice versa. The US flags in the US churches, many Christians preferring Fox News as their primary information source etc.

I can’t tell you the last time I’ve seen a flag in a Church. I think it’s more prevalent in Protestant Churches but I think it’s going by the wayside.

This, I fear, is worse than bringing up the color of carpet in a church business meeting. I have to question any flag in the sanctuary. Out in the lobby or outside is one thing. But in the sanctuary? What are we saying here? But in Protestant churches, you sometimes find it, and woe to the person who dares ask about it.

Frankly, it makes me uncomfortable. Christ is Lord, not a particular nation.

Note that Protestant churches sometimes display the Christian flag along with the American flag in the church sanctuary.

In my childhood, such wasn't the case. The only time the American flag and Christian flag appeared in the sanctuary was during Vacation Bible School. Somehow, in the last sixty years, it's changed.

  • An average of recent polls from the New York Times shows that his approval rating as of May 28 is 45%, with 51% disapproving of his performance.
  • Trump’s approval rating is lower than most past presidents’ approval rating was at this time in their term.

It would be nice if we were to find a way to pay off our trillions of dollars in national debt. In which the democrats cared nothing about.
Do not wonder good sir.

Tell Donald to stop the tax cuts for the richest 5%.

Are you REAAAAAALLY interested in paying down debt?

At the church I attended prior to Orthodoxy - on/around US patriotic holidays the central theme to that week's Sunday service would be patriotism. Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, 4th of July, the usual P/W hymns were not played, but the patriotic tunes from the Baptist Hymnal were featured (God Bless America, America the Beautiful, Battle Hymn (mine eyes have seen the Glory..), My Country 'tis of Thee.. etc
Usually a Boy Scout Troop would act as a color guard and bring in the flags (US, state and Christian) formally and the The Pledge of Allegiance would be recited.
Veterans and/or current service members would be recognized..

I don't know how common this practise was/is elsewhere.

At least in the Catholic Church, which has a set liturgy, it patriotic songs are only sung at the recessional because the final blessing has been said. Mass is over.

But when counted together the top 1% and the top 5% pay 65.6% of the total income taxes paid. Actually, the top 50% of earners pay 97.7% of the total income taxes paid.

Patriotism as a theme? Can't remember it in Baptist churches. I do remember July 4th that fell on a Sunday, and we happened to have the Lord's Supper than night (AKA communion). Per congregation tradition, we sang the first verse of Amazing Grace at the conclusion, but then the pastor had a special request: He asked that we sing the first verse of The Star Spangled Banner. When we finished, he said "Gentlemen, get into your cars and start your engines - and go home."

Yes, this is NASCAR country.
