  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do people who recieve punishment from God deserve it?

Absolutely! When God punishes the wicked they absolutely 100% deserve it for sinning against a 100% holy and a 100% perfect God. Even one sin is enough to deserve punishment from God and we have committed hundreds of thousands if not millions of sins in our lifetimes!

What the gospel is about is getting what we dont deserve. Gods complete and total mercy and gods complete and total forgiveness. But dont fall into the trap. You DO deserve eternal punishment for sinning against God, that is a fact of life. But, there IS hope because God died for you. Believe in him and repent and he will wipe away your sins forever.

First this has noting to do with those UNDER THE LAW as it has been set a side , Acts 28:25-28
First we need to understand what under the law means and who is under the law. Paul tells us plainly

Rom 3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Under the law means under the penalty of the law
(the wages of sin is death 6:23) and who is under the law? The whole world. The only way we are not under the penalty of the law is if we are in Christ, then one would be keeping Gods law, not breaking it. John 15:10 1 John 3:24

Jesus tells us what we need to do

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Repentance from sin is part of the gospel message

Mark 1:15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.

We see this throughout the life of Jesus. When He healed (gave grace) He said Go and sin no more! Which means go and break God's law no more 1 John 3:4 so once He gives grace He puts us back under the penalty of the law if we continue sinning, without asking for His help in overcoming

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” [g]says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Because this time period WE are saved and LIVE under the GRACE of God and SAVED BY GRACE , Rom 10:9 and 10
And yet Paul says plainly, there is no continuing in sin under God's grace which means one is not breaking God's law 1 John 3:4

Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

and Eph 2 :9
Boast means to give glory . We can't take any credit in what Jesus did at the Cross, but that does not mean we are free to live sinful and unholy lives or not give Glory to Him by being obedient to what He asks. Which is repenting, confessing and forsaking our sins Pro 28:13 through our love and faith and keeping His commandments through Him John 14:15-18

kauchaomai: To boast, to glory, to exult
Original Word: καυχάομαι
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: kauchaomai
Pronunciation: kow-khah'-om-ahee
Phonetic Spelling: (kow-khah'-om-ahee)
Definition: To boast, to glory, to exult
Meaning: I boast; I glory (exult) proudly.

And read 1 Cor 5:1-5 and see what happened there !!

Amen, but sadly many people never get to all the promises of Jesus Christ because they only selected out a few verses mainly out of context and never read or lived by the rest of what Jesus told us to live by Mat 4:4

1 Cor 7:19 "what matters is KEEPING the commandments of God"
1 John 5:3-4 "this IS the Love of God that we KEEP His Commandments"
Rev 14:12 "the saints KEEP the Commandments of God AND their faith in Jesus"
1 John 3:4 "Sin IS transgression of the LAW"

Where "Honor your father and mother" - is "the FIRST commandment WITH a promise" Eph 6:2 in that unit of TEN

the term "Under the Law" means different things in different context but one main context is found in Rom 6 where Paul talks about NOT sinning as our response of obedience to that fact that accepting the Gospel results in our " being under the Law" -- not being "under the condemnation" of those who have broken God's Law.

As we see in 1 Cor 6 -- all the lost are condemned "under the Law". This is also found in Rom 3 and James 2.

To be under the law means that I've heard the law and must obey it, just me, myself, and I-as if I actually have that power, as if I already possess that righteousness. But the law stands as an attestation to the fact that I don't already possess that righteousness-or else there'd be no need for the Law to begin with! There's something missing, something Adam had rejected in Eden; I need something more than ME...and the Law, to complete the puzzle, I need God and His ever-present grace. To be under grace means that I now exist in the state of union or fellowship with God which itself defines justice or righteousness for man, and from and within which I can become who I was created to be...and that's not a sinner.

To believe that grace and the new covenant mean nothing more than God's favor and the forgivnesss of sin, as if the requirement for man to be righteous is done away with, is to misunderstand the gospel and to do violence to it, infact. There's a new righteousness, now brought to us and enlivened within us by grace: the work and life of the Holy Spirit.

"But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe." Rom 3:21

"For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!" Rom 5:17

The law and the prophets can only testify to and about this righteousness, but can never deliver it or accomplish it in us:
"For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." Rom 8:3-4

So:
"Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God." Rom 8:12-14

Under grace, now reconciled with Him and only with Him, I can finally accomplish what the law could not. That communion with God, within which He justifies the ungodly, putting His law in our minds and writing it on our hearts Himself, is the heart of the New covenant.
