  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ten Senate Democrats ignore growing party anger to help advance Trump’s spending bill

Democrats were fuming with the GOP plan for being iced out of drafting the short-term legislation that ignores their demand to put guardrails on Elon Musk’s federal cost-cutting mission through the Department of Government Efficiency. Still, despite threatening to filibuster the measure, ten Democrats joined with Republicans to advance the measure, known as a continuing resolution because it largely locks in current funding levels through Sept. 30.

Democratic Party fractures over Trump-backed bill to avert government shutdown

Democrats found themselves in the middle of an all-out civil war on Friday as the Senate prepared to advance a six-month government funding bill to avert a shutdown set for midnight.

The Republican-crafted legislation dramatically split Democrats, revealing deep divisions within the party that left many questioning Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) ability to continue at the helm of his caucus after folding in a showdown with Republicans.

Two bad choices. It's clear none support Trump. They just differ on the best defense for America against his dangerous proposals.
They should make their unified opposition to Trump loud and clear despite the vote.

.
Schumer is taking a beating on CNN and MSNBC, but I'm watching AOC and Bernie, and for the first time I'm shocked by their glaring lack of insight. Republicans have set a trap. They want Democrats to shut down the government, so that Musk and DOGE can finish the looting. Because when the government shuts down, judicial oversight is weakened, since most of the staff are furloughed. All of this is according to two AI models I consulted (ChatGPT and Deep Seek), and this will present opportunities for criminal wrongdoing by outside actors like DOGE or other groups.

The Breadtube crowd right now are irate, but this really is like The Empire Strikes Back. Sometimes you have to wait to fight another day. Otherwise, all you will cause is more pain and suffering. But Breadtube can't get over their own obsession with tribalism and purity. Schumer basically has no choice other than to accept the lesser of two evils.

Well, they got 10 Democrats to vote with Republicans. They only needed 8.
The other Democrats were free to vote their consciences.
Bernie and AOC might have too much honesty to realize how devious and manipulative their opponents might be.
Few politicians have their unflagging integrity.

I almost feel sorry for the DNC at this point. First their decision to snub a kid with cancer and now this. What's next?

They have six year terms. Some are in swing states.
and....?
Schumer is retirement age.
So is a majority of the Democratic Elite - maybe they will all retire - that would be great!
Peter's has already said he won't run again.
Peter who?
Both choices were bad for Democrats.
And good for the Republicans - looking forward to at least eight more years of Republican majority - people are loving promises made - promises kept.

‘Slap In The Face’: Democrats Rage At Chuck Schumer After His Shutdown Fold

Democrats across the ideological spectrum are sharply criticizing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (R-N.Y.) for caving on his threat to block a Republican bill to avert a government shutdown.
Schumer on Wednesday announced Democrats would filibuster the legislation, but then on Thursday revealed that he himself planned to vote for it, signaling that the filibuster likely wouldn’t happen after all.
What happened to the party of joy?

Democratic anger over 'Schumer surrender' shows party's deep divisions on how to take on Trump

WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer faces a moment of turmoil after retreating from his initial threat to block a six-month government funding bill written by Republicans, a move that infuriated fellow Democrats in the House and liberal advocates — and raised questions about his effectiveness as party leader.

Schumer, who has served as the Democrats’ leader in the Senate for eight years, has typically managed to find consensus within his party. But he now finds himself on the defensive in one of the first major legislative fights of the second Trump administration, even drawing rebukes from longtime allies.

Stock market gained 25% in the last two months of the Biden administration. Since Trump has been president, we've gone into a correction--10%.

Some of it is due to the tariffs, some due to his snubbing our traditional allies in Nato and befriending totalitarian empire-building dictators. Some of it is due to the unelected Musk seemingly calling all the shots for the president. Some of it is due to the cabinet choices, who are acting like a wrecking crew in many of their departments.

Some of it is due to Trump's flagging popularity (which is nowhere near bottom yet.)

You may be one of the unconditional Trump lovers. Many more will prioritize their well-being and lack the masochism to suffer through tariff-led inflation and retaliatory tariff-led unemployment,.

The defectors may not be "woke," but they will be awakened and enlightened.

Key word - correction
Some of it is due to the tariffs, some due to his snubbing our traditional allies in Nato and befriending totalitarian empire-building dictators.
Thanks for your opinion - got any facts?
Some of it is due to the unelected Musk seemingly calling all the shots for the president.
That level of bias is not addressable

Some of it is due to the cabinet choices, who are acting like a wrecking crew in many of their departments.
Getting rid of corruption and waste might feel like a wrecking crew to the ones who are getting rich off it.
Some of it is due to Trump's flagging popularity (which is nowhere near bottom yet.)
This isn't a popularity contest - but how popular it the DNC? 31%?
You may be one of the unconditional Trump lovers.
To an unconditional Trump hater -any support would look like it.
Many more will prioritize their well-being and lack the masochism to suffer through tariff-led inflation and retaliatory tariff-led unemployment,.
Again - thank you for your opinion based on.... I'm just not sure what.
The defectors may not be "woke," but they will be awakened and enlightened.
What defectors? The Republican Party is growing - some from Democrats who no longer identify with what their party seems to have become.
