  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Casey Anthony, of all people, now pushing Democrat talking points regarding feminism and LGBT activism.

I'm a Protestant and I'm not interested in arguing with somebody who already has their mind made up and only looking to score cheap polemical points. I am unpersuaded by the claims that Rome has an infallible tradition in the same way I'm unpersuaded by Mormon claims to have secret golden tablets.

Of course I believe the Bible has a history behind it. I'm not philosophically naive and I'm not a fundamentalist. I accept biblical scholarship as a valid discipline, else I wouldn't be a Mainline Protestant. I consider Protestantism to be about the minimum one needs to have assurance of salvation, not a totalizing, self-contained dogmatic system, a la Francisco Suarez's Catholicism.
I'm not a Roman catholic so I don't know why you're addressing this to me, or what it has to do with anything.

The question is ultimately about human ethics, not metaphysics. Those are two separate domains of philosophy that are only indirectly related to one another. Whether embryos have souls is less important than whether women have rights to their own bodies. And traditional Protestant ethics very much is on the side of the notion that people have a right to their own bodies as a good gift from God, and that the state and Church has no authority to compel people to give that up without due cause.

I won't stoop to sophistry. The answer to that is self-evident. And if a person cannot answer that, they have no business acting in an adult capacity in society.
So, what I'm hearing is, don't think about it. Any question that would challenge my belief is sophistry. Regardless of what you're saying, you know where answering those questions truthfully will take you, which is why you don't. I'm not going to press you any further though. This is as far as it ever goes with the pro-choice. Also, protestant ethics is guided by biblical morality...God's word. Do you attend one of those "Jesus was a trans refugee", fly a gay pride flag in the front yard churches? I'm getting some serious liberation theology vibes from you.

Wrong. It has been since the beginning. Read the Didache.
My thoughts exactly! It was never permissible for the early Church and all ancient apostolic Churches condemn it. Rightfully so.
