  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Elon Musk's transgender-identifying son blasts Christian Post for 'misgendering'

I think I generally agree with what you're saying. First Things is a more academically inclined magazine from the news outlet of the Christian Post, but even though I've read a little bit from both over the past 10 years, I'm not sure how hard I should be knocking the Christian Post on most counts. The Elon Musk article mentioned in the OP is the first instance of my hearing about him having a son who has a gender identification issue. It's news to me and I'm weighing what to make of the Christian Post's being cited for "misgendering".....

I know of the existence of the Christian Post only from what I've seen of their forwarded posts on CF. Possibly this gives me a skewed view of them, as I don't ever seek out their website. When I see one of the CP's articles here on CF, if I choose to read the article, more often than not I end up tracking down some links to find out what the actual story was, and I find that the CP has slanted that story in some misleading way. After a particularly bad article a couple of months back, I instructed a little voice in my head to tell me "Don't do it, don't read it, it's the Christian Post, it's clickbait, they waste your time, don't do it!" (Yeah, this time I didn't listen to the little voice...)

On the issues in the Musk family, I had already heard about the estrangement between Elon Musk and his transgender child. In the circles I move in -- university, church, family, neighborhood, all of it -- it's considered rude to refer to a transgender person by their birth pronouns. In the circles the Christian Post moves in, it's considered acceptable, perhaps mandatory, to use the person's birth pronouns. It's a significant culture clash.

On the particular question of pronouns, you may be closer to the Christian Post's culture. I leave that to your discernment. You're very different from the Christian Post in an important way, though: I've seen a consistent integrity in your posts, a commitment to discovering the truth and speaking the truth as best as you know it. Thank you for that.

I must be very young. I’m Catholic, not Protestant, and never heard of First things. Hmmm….

First Things actually has alot of Catholic writers contributing. But it's a Catholicism of an Integralist sort. Which means, totalitarian, highly dogmatic, not really interested in engaging with other perspectives seriously. Integralist Catholicism is thriving, albeit a small but vocal minority in the US, whereas the rest of the developed world more or less has moved on.

And how long would you say has it been considered "rude" in those circles? I'm asking from an academically inclined perspective here.

Here's the thing, though: I've worked with LGBTQ+ people for the last 30 some years. So, it's not as if I haven't sat side by side with them as fellow coworkers and that I remained oblivious to what they have to put up with and go through each day of their lives.

If anything, I sympathize with each of them in their personal struggles, as I would with any fellow human being who has to deal with physical or cultural or psychological conditions that somehow place them outside of what has (until more recently) been considered as the binary norm.

At the same time, on a separate front that has more to do with binary issues among hetrosexual people, I have my own issues by having been affected by a Hefnerian worldview/philosophy that countermands a Christian worldview/philosophy.

I'm in conflict here where lines of overlap may exist between the Left, LGBTQ+ culture on the one hand, and the polygamous, untethered Hefnerian hetrosexual hook-up culture on the other hand; the former for which I attempt to offer sympathy and understanding as far as I can, but as for the latter, I can only offer the crushing blow of a defensive, iron glove.

So, when I see a media report involving a mix of these issues, such as the one in which Musk and his children are involved, I'm not sure what the "right thing" to say is in all cases. .... instead, I just shake my head in ambivalence over whatever truth claims everyone is making and pushing from all sides.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's transgender-identifying son Xavier, who now goes by the name Vivian Jenna Wilson, recently criticized The Christian Post for publishing an op-ed that referred to him with masculine pronouns.

"The Christian Post just published an article calling me a Trans-Identified Son who's just a tragic little gay boy. Love thy neighbor right," Wilson wrote Friday on Threads. "I am unamused."

The Feb. 26 op-ed, titled "The tragic story of Elon Musk and his trans-identified son," was written by contributor Joseph Sciambra, who argued that Musk's assertion his son was "born gay" is unsubstantiated and likely a means of deflecting from his own neglectful parenting.

Sounds like the liberals are upset a Elon's DOGE uncovering of liberal fraud in government

Looks like president Trumps canceling DEI in federal government has hit a nerve

Trump MAGA, America First!
