Nope. That is laughable. Biden CLEARLY was selling it off before Trump took office. You can and have spun it any which way you want to. They were unused sections...unused because Biden stopped building the border wall as soon as he got into office, so it sat there for 4 years.
Truth Be Told: Parts of border wall aren't being sold to spite Trump
Parts meant to build the border wall aren't being sold to spite President-elect Donald Trump. Here's what to know.
From that story:
Then in 2023, Congress passed legislation directing the Department of Defense to "use, transfer, or donate" the supplies.
A defense official tells Scripps News the department gave away 60% of the material to other federal departments and to the state governments of California and Texas. The states were invited to take as much as they wanted, the official said.
Rather than continuing to pay to store the rest, the official said the Defense Department sold the items to the online auction site Gov Planet, where anyone could bid for the parts.
Trump says the government should have kept it all to save costs since he plans to resume building the wall.
"If we don't have it, we're going to have to rebuild it and it will cost double what it cost years ago," Trump said.
But Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who is also a Trump supporter, says the remaining pieces of the wall weren't of much use, posting on X that "...the material for sale was mostly junk."
The legislation in question:
And, because it's over 900 pages long, the specific passage:
SEC. 2890. PLAN FOR USE OF EXCESS CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS ON SOUTHWEST BORDER.
(a) PLAN.—Not later than 75 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to Congress a plan to use, transfer, or donate to States on the southern border of the United States all covered materials, with prioritization given to the refurbishment and or maintenance of ports of entry along the southwest border and construction projects aimed at stopping illicit human and vehicle traffic along the border of the United States with Mexico.
(b) ELEMENTS.—The plan required by subsection (a) shall include the following:
(1) A detailed proposal for the disposition of such covered materials, including a timeline for disposition and the authorities under which such disposition shall occur.
(2) An assessment of the condition of such materials being stored, including (if applicable) a description of materials that have depreciated in value, become damaged, or been lost. [/I]
