saved by faith through grace.. why do people say we're saved by grace, therefore we need not work for anything? isn't it mercy that spares us, and grace gifted so we don't have to be ashamed as we learn to repent?.. It sounds to me like we are to work out our salvation through grace, rather than being instantly saved.. idk
Grace = unmerited favor.

Only by grace through faith in the person and atoning work of Jesus Christ is anyone saved (Eph 2:8-9) from God's wrath (Ro 5:9) on sin at the Final Judgment.

There is no work (performance) we can do to merit salvation.

There is, however, righteous work (performance, obedience) we can do in the power of the Holy Spirit (Ro 6:16) in our Christian life, which leads to holiness (Ro 6:19).

We must work to obtain the blessings.
What work? Has Christ not done enough work for you on the cross? Has Christ no paid for your sins in full with His precious blood? Was that not enough? Has He not satisfied God's wrath? Do you, a sinner, want to add something to the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ? The work is done, that's why the Lord said 'it is finished' but you are saying it is not finished because you want to add works. Then it's no longer grace. If you want to be saved by works, then God will judge you by you works, but you are a sinner, so it won't end well.

What you described is not salvation. Salvation is us lying dead at the bottom of the ocean, Christ jumps in, brings us to live and saves us. We are dead in our sins, there is nothing we can do with our state. We can only pray to God to have mercy on us.

Salvation by grace through faith is such a beautiful truth! It means that we are saved not because of anything we can do, but because of what Jesus has already done for us on the cross. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us, 'For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.' God’s grace is His unearned favor, and through faith in Jesus, we are brought into a relationship with Him. This is what makes Christianity so unique—God has reached down to us in love, offering salvation as a gift. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
