  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The overall reassurance to stay the course and save the planet. From the article:

Lithium batteries make the power grid more stable and reduce the need for energy to be generated from fossil fuels, which release planet-warming gases. California was an early adopter of battery storage and leads the nation with more than 11 gigawatt-hours online.
It appears that this present fire is still under investigation but the story mentioned another fire caused by poor infrastructure (reading between the lines)…but there’s going to be fires at battery storage facilities from time to time and soon we’ll ignore them like we used to ignore oil well fires.
New tech, the solution to old “problems” that creates several new ones.

Just a reminder (or to inform those that don't know), lithium is used in oil refineries to remove the sulfur from crude oil. So for every gallon of gas burned, lithium is still having to be mined and used up. It isn't like if we quit making batteries that we'll quit using lithium entirely, or that mining lithium for batteries will "destroy the planet."

The most ecologically beneficial option would be for mankind to die out.

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet." - Agent Smith, The Matrix

My second favorite quote by Agent Smith, just surpassed by the little noise he makes when he gets poked in the throat in the subway fight.
