  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If you got a new neighbour.. and you found out they were heavily into the occult...
Would you treat them differently? Would you avoid them?
Would you offer help as you would to a Christian neighbour?
Would you let your children play with their children?
Would you be friends?

I would learn from them. Christians should equip themselves with knowledge so that the Gospel can be spread with authority by comparison.

i would talk to them and if they were open to hearing about Jesus. then i would tell them how to become a born again child of God. If they wanted nothing to do with Jesus, then i would leave them alone.

All my neighbors want to be left alone. Maybe an occult family wouldn’t want to have a Christian hanging around or anybody for that matter. People are pretty private these days. They don’t want to stirrup public opinion, or sentiment or awareness in their own neighborhoods. They just want to do their own thing uninhibited.

I'd be friendly.

Initially no avoidance

Help to a point. If they are healthy they should take care of themselves.

Children could play with them unless they start pushing their darkness on them.
If they discussed their lies with the children I would discuss my faith with them. If they persisted, then no going to their house for the kids.

Still friendly, not chummy.

"With the reasonable man I will reason."
With the fool I will plead."
"But to the tyrant I will show no quarter."

If you got a new neighbour.. and you found out they were heavily into the occult...
Not because of what I found out about them, but I apply the following to all worldly people, regardless...

Would you treat them differently? Would you avoid them?
Would you offer help as you would to a Christian neighbour?
Treat them like any neighbor. Matthew 22:37-40; Matthew 5:43-48

Would you let your children play with their children?
Would you be friends?
1 Corinthians 15:33; Proverbs 13:20
Friendly. Not friends. Luke 10:5-7
Jesus was viewed as a friend of tax collectors and sinners, be cause he was friendly toward all. Matthew 11:19

When I work with people, they are my acquaintances, not my friends, but that does not mean I won't drink a cup of ice tea with them, or share in a meal with them.
I would not let my children get close to them, or their children.
My children can be friendly with them, but their friends love God, and those are whom they spend leisure time with.

Galatians 5:7-9
7 You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? 8 It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump.

Pagan occultism isn't really any different than any other false religion in my opinion. As I understand it, it involves worshipping the creation rather than a false god. But I guess there's magic involved too. Which strikes me as being akin to childish imagination.

It all depends on which form of the occult the hypothetical neighbor is actually into and the extent to which he/she believes in it.........

It's one thing to have a neighbor who merely dabbles occasionally with Tarot cards; it's quite another to have a neighbor who is a dyed-in-the-wool worshiper of Santa Muerte or some other similarly practicing occultist. If my neighbor's occultism is something on the order of the latter, there's no good reason I should set caution to the side and frivolously engage him without also always having a speed-dial to the police set on my phone. Some occult practices intend harm to other people on some level and, because of this alone, it is reasonable to hold those persons with suspicion.

If, after applying a lot of critical scrutiny to that neighbor, I perceive there's no risk involved to the safety of my family, sure...........I'd let my kids interact with them and I'd be the proverbial, "good neighbor."

Why Santa Muerte in particular... they are not particularly known for killing people? Why would you need a phone line to the police?

Are you sure about that? I get the feeling you're trying to downplay what I'm saying. For the sake of good academic study, please don't do that.

Whatever the case may be with Santa Muerte, it is just one example of possible maleficence that can exude out of so-called "dark spirituality." There are, of course, other examples and other forms of "harm" that various occultists can attempt to orchestrate against any neighbors by whom they feel they have been offended.

My point is this: as a Christian neighbor, it is incumbent upon me to also PROTECT my loved ones as a part of the acts of faith. Loving one's enemies---or one's neighborhood occultists---isn't to simply be done with naive abandon, throwing caution to the wind.

In other words, Christians aren't commanded by Christ to be stupid when interacting with their neighbors in the world, or even those who live next door. As Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 10:16, "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."

But yeah, I get what you're attempting to insinuate: you're inquiring about the extent to which a Christian, such as myself, might live peacefully and generously with folks like your own beloved mother and sister. Am I correct in my philosophical appraisal of your inner intention in this thread?

You are incorrect with your appraisal, and come across as a little paranoid.
I'm not an academic, but the wiki on Santa Muerte didn't make them sound like killers.
