In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And whatever happened to "When they go low, we go high"?
I do appreciate that you acknowledge that Democrats were the last of the two parties to maintain a semblance of the high road.

I'm not bothered when Trump foes it because it is not an outlier.

It is who he is.

It's who Biden is too. Here's a video from a couple of days ago of Biden wishing he could smack a certain group of people.

I do appreciate that you acknowledge that Democrats were the last of the two parties to maintain a semblance of the high road.

Just because they said it doesn't mean they ever applied it.

Even if Democrats were the last of the two parties to maintain a semblance of the high road, they still ended up at Trumps level. That is why all this pearl clutching over a comedian's joke is so phoney.

Speaking of pearl clutching, the absurdity of republicans being mad that someone said something mean. As if this isn't the political climate they've been fostering these past 9 long years. Did you forget or just not know how democrats have been called pedophiles, groomers, murderers, and recently "the enemy within" by people in office?

And while the focus has been on one comedian's joke last week, that joke wasn't even the worst of what was said at that rally. One of the speakers said, "The whole <something> party, a bunch of degenerates. Low lives, Jew-haters and low lives. Every one of 'em. Every one of 'em." No reaction at all. There was more in this vein all throughout. Completely ignored. Because it just slides off everybody. Because we all know that's what the republican party is and has been for some time. It's no longer outrageous because it's impossible to sustain outrage for 9 years.

Biden make a remark in his typical Biden way, a comment which can be taken in two ways, a charitable way and a non-charitable way. The charitable interpretation requires an understanding of how to use the possessive apostrophe s, so naturally that was off the table for many.

Nothing wrong with what they said. They were giving their opinion of the Democrat party and in their opinion the Democrat harbors a lot of anti-Semitism. They could have said it in a less vulgar though.

Yet democrats only seem to give the charitable interpretation to fellow democrats, while only the non-charitable interpretation is given to republicans, as demonstrate by you in your above comment.

Don't confuse random people on the internet calling you names with the messaging coming from the top of the political party. Even the "weird" line they trotted out a while back was limited to just Trump and Vance. And the "garbage" comment is you taking the uncharitable interpretation, the very thing you're complaining about when it comes to partisan divide. And I never gave you my opinion on it, I just stated there were two ways of looking at it.

There is no charitable way to interpret, "they're rapists, they're vermin, deport millions because they're poisoning the blood of our country, criminality is genetic", etc.

Logically, given that THIS is the one of the few times they are getting upset by being called a name (other than "Deplorables), it's actually a pretty clear indication of how INfrequently Democrat leadership employs terms like that.

He is just tired. Tired of seeing his pretty much unbelievably outstanding accomplishments, which have caused historians to place him as the 15th most effective president (compared to dead last or next to dead last for his predecessor) trashed by a campaign and a campaigner who lie as easily as they breathe.
Any historian who is ranking presidents who have served within the last 20 years is more than likely not sufficiently removed from the situation to be doing so impartially or with sufficient information to make such rankings. So rankings of Trump and Biden are more likely attempts to shape opinion than an honest reflection of their effectiveness.

There is no charitable way to interpret, "they're rapists,

they're vermin,

2 an objectionable or obnoxious person, or such persons collectively.

Millions of Americans consider people crossing the border illegally objectional.

Do you even know what Trump meant by "poisoning the blood"? If you don't, how can you know there is no charitable interpretation?

criminality is genetic", etc.

Trump showing his scientific ignorance again. No big deal. Biden thought you couldn't get covid if you took the vaccine.

DNC leader says GOP is ‘the party of racism’

https://edition.cnn.com/2017/08/11/politics/dnc-keith-ellison-republican-party/index.html

Media, Dems compare historic Trump MSG rally to 'Nazi' event

Gee I wonder why that one congressman would say that all the way back in 2017. Must have been in response to all the racist rhetoric coming from the Republican party like it says in the article. For which that one congressman was then admonished by the rest of the democratic party. Because 'ooh you can't say that!'. Still nothing about nazis or magats though. You're pointing to outliers while the fascist rhetoric is front and center in the GOP in the figure of Donald Trump.

The comparison to an actual nazi rally was a bit of a stretch. I don't think there were enough white supremacist speakers to really justify that. Off the top of my head I can only think of Miller and Carlson.

I never gave my opinion on the comment either.
Don't gaslight me and pretend you didn't.

> Did you forget or just not know how republicans have been called racist, nazis, MAGAats, and recently "garbage" by people in office?

That's you saying you believe the uncharitable interpretation. Don't insult me by denying it.

What's your opinion on it?
I think republicans know that he called them garbage and democrats just wish that he had. Ultimately only Biden know what he meant. That's the problem with an unwritten homonym.

Some of them are.

2 an objectionable or obnoxious person, or such persons collectively.

Millions of Americans consider people crossing the border illegally objectional.
Look at how you have to debase yourself trying to defend this man. Trying to gaslight us into believing he wasn't calling ENTIRE people groups just that. We all saw it. It's on video. It wasn't a slip of the tongue or a gaffe. He's been doing this forever. Like before he was buying space in the newspaper to call for the execution of 5 innocent black teenagers even.

You're twisting yourself into a pretzel trying to argue "he only meant some are rapists", "akshually if you look at the dictionary vermin has this other definition and that's really blabla.." Dude, it's fascist rhetoric. You don't have to defend this. Really. There's charitable and then there's sycophant.

Do you even know what Trump meant by "poisoning the blood"? If you don't, how can you know there is no charitable interpretation?
I don't think he knows what it meant. He might have picked it up after he hosted neo nazi Nick Fuentes, remember that? When he hosted open white supremacist and nazi guy Nick Fuentes?

He said "immigrants are poising the blood of our country". There's no other way to spin this other than literal nazi rhetoric.

And after he had made that comment, a DIRECT Hitler quote, his staff and reporters had to tell him he sounded like Hitler because it's the exact language Hitler used, to which Trump claimed that he didn't know and then he just CONTINUED saying it. Even if he didn't know that, like he claimed, you'd think that once he did know that he would stop doing that. But guess what he doubled down on it. Hard.

Are you seriously befuddled why some people are calling that out as fascist? After the literal hundreds of other fascist adjacent things he said he wants to do? You don't have to feign being indignant here. We're not fooled.

Trump showing his scientific ignorance again. No big deal. Biden thought you couldn't get covid if you took the vaccine.
'Trump is just spouting fascist white supremacist rhetoric again, so typical heehee, no big deal, he's just too stupid to realize it or stop doing it. Please vote for this man'.

And you're trying to whatabout with Biden and Covid, like seriously? Honestly this alone disqualifies you from being taken seriously.

The best thing you can say about Trump is that he's a liar who isn't going to put his fascist rhetoric into practice.

So a congressman said that in response to what he saw coming from the republican party. Has it occurred to you republicans have been calling democrats all the things you listed because of what they've seen coming from the democrat party.

Don't gaslight me and pretend you didn't.

That's not me giving my opinion, that's me pointing out what republicans think. Like you said yourself, republicans know that he called them garbage and democrats just wish that he had. Ultimately only Biden know what he meant.

Providing you articles and a dictionary definition is debasing myself? Weird take.

What evidence do you have that he called ENTIRE people groups just that?

You're twisting yourself into a pretzel trying to argue "he only meant some are rapists", "akshually if you look at the dictionary vermin has this other definition and that's really blabla.." Dude, it's fascist rhetoric. You don't have to defend this. Really. There's charitable and then there's sycophant.

Dismissing a valid dictionary definition, this alone disqualifies you from being taken seriously.

I don't think he knows what it meant. He might have picked it up after he hosted neo nazi Nick Fuentes, remember that? When he hosted open white supremacist and nazi guy Nick Fuentes?

But I'm asking you do you know what he meant?

Seems you're attempting the old guilt by association fallacy here.

He said "immigrants are poising the blood of our country". There's no other way to spin this other than literal nazi rhetoric.

You just contradicted yourself. First you said "I don't think he knows what it meant." now your saying it's literal nazi rhetoric.

And after he had made that comment, a DIRECT Hitler quote, his staff and reporters had to tell him he sounded like Hitler because it's the exact language Hitler used,

No it's not. It vaguely resembles something Hitler said.

to which Trump claimed that he didn't know and then he just CONTINUED saying it. Even if he didn't know that, like he claimed, you'd think that once he did know that he would stop doing that. But guess what he doubled down on it. Hard.

I wonder was this before or after his "poisoning the blood" comment?

Are you seriously befuddled why some people are calling that out as fascist? After the literal hundreds of other fascist adjacent things he said he wants to do? You don't have to feign being indignant here. We're not fooled.

Fascist adjacent? So basically the guilt by association fallacy.

'Trump is just spouting fascist white supremacist rhetoric again, so typical heehee, no big deal, he's just too stupid to realize it or stop doing it. Please vote for this man'.

Didn't know saying unscientific things was now considered white supremacist.

And you're trying to whatabout with Biden and Covid, like seriously? Honestly this alone disqualifies you from being taken seriously.

The best thing you can say about Trump is that he's a liar who isn't going to put his fascist rhetoric into practice.

I don't know if you've noticed but this thread is about Biden not Trump. So the whataboutism is on your part.

In his heart of hearts he knows that the overwhelming majority of Trump supporters are not "garbage," and that even the extremists should be described more politically correctly.
You are approaching dangerously close to the "there were good people on both sides" conundrum.
