  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This guy did everything, a real modern-day Reneissance man. Rhodes scholar, professor, actor, military and civilian helicopter pilot, country-music singer-songwriter and an activist against Ronald Reagan's policies in Central America.

I remember him as the lead star in the 1989 sci-fi film Millenium, where he played an NTSB airline crash investigator that has a romantic involvement with a time traveller from the future. One of my favorite B movies, just for the concept alone (you may never have heard of it, it was largely unsuccessful at the box office). Kristofferson was competent in the role, but I've read he had better films in the 70's. I was never a big country music fan, though.

For years I just assumed he was some country dude that wrote some good tunes. Then I read about his life and was astonished. If someone had scripted the story it would have gone nowhere. Way too far fetched.

I'm going to listen to him for an hour or so now to remember how good those songs were. RIP Kris.

He was a very bright man who did a lot, including writing amazing songs, like "Me and Bobby McGee" for Janis Joplin, and "Help Me Make it through the Night" (recorded by several people).
