  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This post show ignorance of the usefulness of a pickup truck especially for people in rural areas. But even if one wants and can afford one just because this still is America right?

As I noted before, the data would indicate that only about a quarter of pickup truck owners use them for "truck stuff", the rest are doing it as an overpriced fashion statement or to covey some "rugged/manly" image. (and that was cited by pro-Truck publication)

But you're right in that if someone can actually afford one, and wants to get one, by all means go for it...as long as they don't whine about the gas prices and vandalize all the gas station pumps with these stickers, have fun

But people should be aware when buying one, that contrary to what the snarky bumper sticker says about "this truck runs on liberal tears", they in fact run on gasoline, about $90 worth of it each fill-up. So they should plan accordingly. If an increase of $0.20 per gallon is ruining their life, then perhaps they bought a vehicle that's out of their league, financially speaking.

I have never understood the obsession with pickup trucks that the US consumer seems to have

It is one of the worst financial decisions a young guy can make: instead of spending 25k on a new sedan, he goes and finances a 45k pickup truck. Why? Because I need my truck!

no you don't --unless you are using it for work, you don't need a truck

People use them for recreation. Being able to carry dirt bikes etc is useful.

Though back in the 90s you could get small trucks which were quite cheap. A cheap Nissan or Toyota with 4wd was useful.

I actually peel those off and stick them on other things. Sliced bread? I did that. Light switch off? I did that. Pool opens at 8am? I did that.

So why do you need to discourage the sale of EVs? I suspect it's because the Chinese have shown themselves able to make better EVs more cheaply than American manufacturers.
If you want to buy an EV, please go ahead and do so. In my state and in many, many other states, an EV simply isn't a good or practical solution to drive as compared to gasoline or diesel vehicles.

I'm not going to buy an electric. The vehicles I own have a good many miles left in them, maybe more than I do. You'll just have to keep your car on the road a while longer, too.
