  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Araine 5 Launch (first space video I liked a lot which I watched in 2011 or so)

Araine 5 Launch Onboard Video (2008, duration: 5 min, age rating: ALL)

Song in the second half of the video is Bio Future by Stephane Hirondelle (2006, Ambient, Electronic, Downtempo)

My favorite spacecraft video of all time (CGI), which I watched as a 10-year-old.

Guided Tour of Phoenix Mars Landing (2008, duration: 8 minutes / real time, age rating: 12+ due to complex science)

Haha, so true man. You just took me down an early 2010s rabbit hole when I uploaded some classic space videos.

In my computer room I have seven monitors hooked up to four computers. As there is much room for waiting I can wait for an exciting time to cover!

Dang brother, that is a lot of screens and computers. Are you running a CIA operation or a NASA supercomputing facility? I have an idea, put on four videos at once. Or, wait until the time is right to cover all the videos individually. :)

I did bother to get two AAS IT degrees Magna Cum Laude. I built all my computers. Many of them are old. But since they all have 8 GB Ram I figure worth saving. I must have 20 old hard drives that need thrown away. While I was studying I would watch the science videos at the same time. It seems like a decade until here recently the science scene seems to have come out of the woodwork and become exciting again.

Bro, you might want to do a tour of these computers. Computers fascinate me. 8 GB of RAM is a lot for an old computer. When I was a kid, most high-end computers only had 2 - 4 GB of RAM in the late 2000s (cos I saw in 2012-13 that my mom's mid-range old 2000s laptop that broke then had about 1 GB of RAM), unless by old, you mean ~2015 or so. If you say that 2015 is old, then you make me feel old. ;)

What was your favorite part about IT? And yes, science kinda stagnated since the end of the Space Shuttle in 2011, or good space science news stagnated until the JWST was launched, and SpaceX took off in the 2020s.

Not a video but an image of Earth imaged by Voyager 1 at a distance of six billion kilometers.
The coloured bands are scattered sunlight as the Sun was near the field of view of the camera.

The image makes us look insignificant against the scale of the universe.

What was my favorite part about IT? Programming Language! Even though I started out barely making it through High School God has opened for me many doors...

1. Plating - Started out my job plating lead onto aluminum (in which was very challenging)
2. Quality - Spent time with a Quality Engineer doing 6 sigma machine capabilities
3. Machine Technology - Ended up making samples and being flown abroad
4. Lab Technician - Learning chemistry and metallurgy - Getting started at the community college taking chemistry classes
5. Community College - Getting IT degrees in IT and Database Programming
6. Vacations - Going on cruises and exploring the French Polynesia

I have discovered and created many functions and sub procedures using Microsoft Access. Especially enjoying the Domain Aggregate Functions...

DAvg Function
DCount Function
DLookup Function
DFirst, DLast Functions
DMin, DMax Functions
DStDev, DStDevP Functions
DSum Function
DVar, DVarP Functions

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work, and a lot of fun. I have a friend from a church young adults group who is studying materials science. Isn't lead bad for the environment and health? What was the lead-plated aluminum for? Could tin be used as an alternative to lead?

For myself, I never liked the thought of going on cruises, cos I do not like crowds or being trapped on a ship, so airplanes are my preference, but I am glad that you explored some islands. What was your favorite island in French Polynesia? How does a 6 sigma machine work? I know that sigma refers to the bell curve, a normal distribution graph, but which machine has a 6 sigma sensitivity?

Six sigma machine capability- you want to take at least 250 measurements of samples and come up with statistics. I would report to management that A-Line wall bore has 50 millionths machine capability which is within our 300 millionths tolerance for example. It is of my beliefs that the cheaper steel we are buying does not have the wall size capability but would have to gather the data to prove it.

Which samples were you measuring? Like steel depths for piston engines or something? Cheaper steel does not sound good for anything, so it is good that you gathered data to prove that cheap steel sucked. Are these measurements millionths of a meter, or of an inch?
