Judge blocks key defense evidence and witness on eve of Hunter Biden gun trial​


The federal judge overseeing Hunter Biden’s gun trial dealt his defense two setbacks Sunday, on the eve of jury selection, by blocking one of his expert witnesses and excluding a key piece of evidence the president’s son hoped to use.

The rulings from Judge Maryellen Noreika resolved some of the sticking points that were still simmering before the trial begins Monday. Taken together, these decisions could make a tough case for Hunter Biden even more challenging to win. President Joe Biden’s son has pleaded not guilty to illegally buying and owning a gun while abusing illicit drugs.

Prosecutors are showing the jury the infamous laptop that Hunter Biden left at a Delaware repair shop in 2019.

FBI agent Erika Jensen testified that authorities verified that the laptop belonged to Hunter Biden because of its serial number and other records from Apple.

Evidence of what, I wonder. I didn't think the laptop had anything to do with guns. Though, perhaps there are left over records indicating that there was an overlap in drug use and gun purchasing. *shrug*

(I haven't kept up with the timelines.)

Day 4 of Hunter Biden's federal gun trial​


Gun shop employee’s testimony solicits objections from prosecutors about potential issues with the ATF form​

Gordon Cleveland was about to say something on the stand about potential problems with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) paperwork, which could’ve opened the door for the defense to bring up the fact that the gun employees later altered the form.

Prosecutors objected several times, and the judge sustained their objections, cutting off Cleveland from answering Abbe Lowell’s questions.

More context: The store’s tampering with the form – in 2021, years after the sale – is important to the defense. But the judge has previously limited their ability to delve into the issue in front of the jury.
