Justice Alito Flew “Appeal to Heaven” flag at his beach house

Last summer, two years after an upside-down American flag was flown outside the Virginia home of Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., another provocative symbol was displayed at his vacation house in New Jersey, according to interviews and photographs.

This time, it was the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, which, like the inverted U.S. flag, was carried by rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

It seems Justice Alito is oblivious to the appearance of bias by such actions.

Until about a decade ago, the Appeal to Heaven flag was mostly a historical relic. But since then it has been revived to represent “a theological vision of what the United States should be and how it should be governed,” said Matthew Taylor, a religion scholar at the Institute of Islamic Christian Jewish studies. He is also the author of a forthcoming book tracing how a right-wing Christian author and speaker who repopularized the flag helped propel Mr. Trump’s attempt to overturn the election.

As a Christian, it disgusts me when other Christians decide to antagonize others, such as what Alito did with the flag. It perverts our religion, which is about being peaceful.

This is the same flag that hangs outside Speaker Johnson's office.
As posts #2 and #4 note, it has taken on a new meaning over the past few years, one associated with Christian Nationalism.

Wow, that is bad. Nationalism, of any flavor (Christian or not) is toxic for our country.

I have relatives who voted for the current POTUS, are registered demo & vote demo. They have flown the Appeal to Heaven flag at their home. This flag was in the 2008 HBO miniseries: John Adams starring Paul Giamatti ( something we agree on as a good program). Is DOJ commissar McGarlic or whatever his name is going to have them arrested?
