A new electric vehicle battery factory in Kansas will require so much energy that a coal plant slated for closure will now remain open, plus it will be expanded.

I'm so pleased that you have come around to realising that coal fired plants are a not a great idea.
Never said such a thing - in this case - it is coal fired to the rescue

What? Did you read the article? It's complaining that the coal plant is staying open. Check any article on this matter. They're all saying it's a bad thing.

Where do you think the electricity to charge all those EVs is going to come from?

Mostly natural gas powered plants.
Why did Biden move against LPG recently then?
Did Joe Biden halt approvals of liquified natural gas exports?

Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is announcing a temporary pause on pending decisions on exports of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to non-FTA countries until the Department of Energy can update the underlying analyses for authorizations.Jan

Go on, tell us why.

Meanwhile:

"In 2023, the United States produced a record 38 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, 4.7 billion barrels of crude oil and 238 million megawatt-hours of solar. This is more than at any other time in history, including during the Trump administration. In 2016, we were exporting almost zero liquefied natural gas; seven years later, our peak capacity is around 14 billion cubic feet per day. This past week, analyses from J.P. Morgan and the Energy Information Administration confirmed that American energy is booming. No other country in history has produced as much oil and gas as the United States is producing today."

Thats informative but it doesn’t explain what Biden did and the article is behind a paywall. I’m not sure what your point is.

It's called irony. He probably finds the situation amusing. I know I do.

I thought you knew the reason for a temporary pause. Are you citing a source?

My point is despite the narrative we hear from the GOP stating that Biden is restraining our energy producers, today, as a country, we are producing more energy (from all sources), than ever before.

The point of Manchen's OP Ed -- we, as a country, should acknowledge how far we have come in becoming energy self-sufficient. Additionally, Manchen notes the Biden Administration is burying this accomplishment so as not to aggregate the Left.

The fact is, as the op's battery plant illustrates, we are going to need carbon-based energy for the immediate future while non-carbon based energy ramps up -- over the next decade or two.

So the Biden administration is trying to keep this quiet to keep the environmental wackos happy

It's ironic that you use one technology to build the other? See if you can work out the error in logic here:

'I think we need to make some solar panels'.
'What are we going to use for power to build them?'
'We'll use solar panels'.
'But we don't have any.'
'That's why we need to make them'.

There are millions of apartments, condos and housing tracts where that's not an option.
Someone living in one of those condos can use my power. I put more into the system than I take out. Last quarter I didn't pay the energy company anything. They ended up paying me.

If there's a will, then hamsters won't be needed. From here: SA hits new record running on 100 per cent renewables - InDaily

'Latest data shows solar and wind energy accounted for 80 per cent of the state’s electricity from December 1 to February 28, including the 10-day stint where the state used 100 per cent green energy.

Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis said on most days in SA there were now periods when renewables generated more than enough electricity to meet 100 per cent of the state’s consumption, with the excess exported to Victoria.'

South Australia has the same population as West Virginia. And, surprisingly, Charleston gets more sunshine than Adelaide. So c'mon guys. Get your act together. You're wasting all that free energy.
