A Georgia judge ruled that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) can remain in former President Trump’s election interference case, rejecting the Trump team’s request to have her removed over her romantic relationship with a subordinate. Yes, but: Only if her ex-lover, special prosecutor Nathan Wade, steps aside. Why?: Judge Scott McAfee decided that Willis’s relationship with Wade was a conflict of interest for the case. One of the two has to leave the case.

I didn't understand how their relationship created a conflict of interest, and I'm glad the judge McAfee rejected Trump's and other lawyers' effort to disqualify her. If the Trump team had succeeded in removing Fani, her disqualification could have seriously farther delayed or even derailed the case against Trump and his co-conspirators.

McAfee said his ruling was based on the law, and to prevent an “appearance of conflict” over potential financial improprieties, that either Willis and her entire office or Nathan Wade must step aside. But said Trump and his allies had failed to sufficiently substantiate claims that Willis’ romantic relationship with Wade had created an “actual” conflict of interest.

After months delay Trump's team did create an embarrassing and damaging side-show for the DA Willis and succeeded in shifting the nation’s attention from Trump’s attempt to steal an election to the relationship between Willis and the special prosecutor.

Good news Fani Willis won the right to stay on Georgia important Trump RICO case.

She and her boyfriend bought each other stuff while she was directing her office to hire and pay him for legal work. It's not hard to see how this looks like she could be using her authority to direct public funds into her own pocket with her boyfriend serving as an intermediary.

The Guardian has the full ruling if you'd like to read it:

It takes a lot of courage to stand up to Trump and his $50 million legal lackeys.

They will stop at nothing to get delays--realizing he is 110% guilty if brought to trial.

The states' cases are important. Trump's appointees can't rule he's immune. The path to justice has been cleared.

Willis reeks of corruption. Judge calls it “odor of mendacity“

Fortunately for the citizens of Georgia, it doesn’t appear she was trying to enrich herself from this arrangement, as misguided as it may have been. And it didn’t serve to prejudice anything against Trump.

It speaks badly for Georgia if they allow her to continue knowing her total unethical behavior. Unless that’s what they want.

She has had an extraordinary career fighting organized crime. Perhaps her daring independent streak has contributed to her success.

I am glad the case will continue with a different prosecutor.

And I am glad the judge was wise enough to realize the exceptional urgency of this case and the potential danger of allowing the defendant continue his crime spree in the future.

Everyone is guilty until proven innocent.

Imagine you were working as a prosecutor for the DA and along comes a high profile case loaded with money and fame. The DA selects her secret lover for the case instead of you.
Theres nothing unethical about that?
Not only does she collect the cash and fame, but so does her secret lover.
They get over on everyone. Not.
Personally, I think they planned the whole thing before hand.

What cash? What secret lover?

Why are you using the word lover instead of ex-boyfriend?

Planned what?

Ex-lover.

Who cares?
To me the why isn't as important as the fact she lied under oath--committed perjury. She should be swiftly prosecuted and disbarred.

If you're going to try a political hit job on a prosecutor, be sure you finish the job.
It's not a hit job, it's justice. We need judges who will uphold the law and not worry about pandering to their Democrat colleagues. These cases against Trump continue to break down because they are unprecedented cases of trying to twist the law--where normal legal procedures are abandoned.

Wade resigned because he knew he was caught lying. if the hearing had shown credibility, he’d still be on the case.

They both lied, both should have been booted. But the judge would have to explain to his Democrat colleagues why he didn't to everything he could to get Trump and why he had a black female removed.
