I am sick of them!

No matter who they intend to insult. That phrase with the F bomb. What does it even mean? A sexual act? No. Those who use the phrase so often don't even know. It just seems to be a way of saying the old , "Down with". Remember that from the 60's? Funny, now "Down with" is positive., "I am down with that!" I am convinced that use of the F bomb is simply a stupid and lazy way to express anything.

I am for more decency and clarity in communication. Sure, we have freedom to be obscene, mean and rude. But we also have a choice to be decent, kind and polite. That is the kind of society I would rather live in. Wouldn't you?

I'm a big fan of the obscene signs being put up next to ones espousing a Christian faith, e.g. "**** Your Feelings" next to "I stand for the flag and kneel for the cross."
My reply would be don't be an *******.

It is all an indication of how dumbed down we have become. We don't know how to express ourselves effectively.

Obscenity doesn't bother me, it's convention after all, but I do think it can detract from more meaningful communication. Some people tend to rely on colorful language almost as a crutch to speak for them. The versatility of the F-bomb being a prime example. If someone says, F-that, my thought is "Okay, but why? You still haven't said much."

That is exactly right. It has no meaning other than strong dissatisfaction. Big deal. It is now trite.

That's exactly what it is. That type of language stems from the fact that they have a weak mind and an inadequete vocabulary.

I got cursed out by a guy one time and he never used one curse word. That was seriously humiliating to me. Taught me a lesson that day. It pays to increase your word power.

It's still a sub-culture trait though.

I am appalled seeing the political obscenities tossed around so casually in America. I remember visiting family in Indiana right after Biden won the last election. It was Christmas and we were watching the kids ride around on their new scooters. Grown-ups were driving up and down city streets with giant F Joe Biden flags flapping clearly for all to see. It is repulsive to see and probably why the town's population has actually dropped since I grew up there in the 70s and 80s.

The power of articulation. I can't help wonder if it also is not really knowing what we think and feel.

They did it alittle more discretely where I live ...

We had snow plows going up and down the streets with "F JB" printed largely on the front of them.

I personally find the signs to be very helpful ... helpful in spotting like-minded thinkers, and helpful in knowing who to avoid!

Remember that time after a Nascar race when the crowd was chanting that very sentiment, but the reporter said "I think they are saying "Let's go Brandon"? A month after that we're driving thru the midwest heading for Indiana and found ourselves ordering food in the joint attached to the gas station. Having a slight Virginia accent, the girl mistook my name for Brandon. I was suddenly quite popular when she called out the name Brandon. The whole place enjoyed a spontaneous laugh. Especially after my dad hollered "Let's go Brandon". I loved it so much I now identify as Brandon throughout the midwest fast food culture. Every time I order something I am Brandon, and I get to laugh at and with the people who look up and chuckle too. I like to accentuate the positives.

I don’t mind it when it’s used a lot without emphasis- I’ve worked in a salty environment for a while and it’s just a normal, versatile adjective and/or berb and/or noun.

What annoys me is when people use it as if it means something. The folks on the right are supposed to be righteous and the folks on the left are supposed to be smart, and that is how they try to impress me?

Ya, my college days were pretty salty. A word so versatile it can mean anything. But then I learned it can be offensive to those with a finer sense of etiquette...like most people. Although these days, not most people anymore. Just another symptom of our sick, virtue starved society. I get it that it can be a verbal habit. But creating big signs for the public and then others cheering it? It puzzles me.

We would do well to force ourselves to think more thoroughly, reflect more honestly and articulate more clearly.

People in the world mainly use curse words to express their sadness and anger towards others.

Often used to provoke confrontations and even violence.

It is a sign of anger within, IMO and becomes a habit.

kneel for the cross."

That doesn't.

In the Lutheran tradition we have a saying, crux probat omnia, "the cross tests everything". We live by the cross, we die by the cross, we suffer for the cross, we abide by the cross, we endure the cross, we adore the cross, we kneel at it, we proclaim it, we live it, we are in all ways to be marked by it in everything.

There is no Christian except by the cross.

But the cross has little place in American Christianity, where cheap grace reigns and costly grace is despised.
