  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

New York Mayor Eric Adams said Wednesday that the migrants arriving rapidly in New York will “destroy” his city.

The mayor’s comments marked a significant escalation in his rhetoric and offered a new challenge to the Biden administration, which has failed to stop the surge of people and has failed to offer the kind of financial support Mr. Adams and other local officials say is needed to accommodate all the new arrivals.

“I don’t see an ending to this,” Mr. Adams said at a community meeting. “This issue will destroy New York City.”

Not really, no I haven’t followed any immigrant crisis stories of late.

Having perused these I must say that this is bigger than what Joe can effectively do, there needs to be legislation passed to address these issue, does anybody know where we can find a functioning Congress?

We already have laws on the books that cover all of these crimes. We just need to enforce them. It would probably be best to stop them at the source, the border; but it seems that you are correct in saying that "this is bigger than what Joe can effectively do." We should look for someone who can do the job.

We agree!
But we seem to disagree on what “the job” is.

I’m sure that we agree that the President cannot not and should not act as a absolute monarch would.

The “job” is to have the necessary legislation passed, so that we can effectively deal with the situation as it is now, rather than trying to limp along with laws that are already on the books!

Congress neeeds to act, the ball is moldering in their court and has been since Bush the Less.
