  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"The administration's landmark announcement Tuesday detailed the first-ever set of drugs subject to Medicare price negotiations, a longtime Democratic priority included in last year's Inflation Reduction Act over drug companies' fervent objections."

Biden doing what he set out to do....help the average American save money on prescriptions....

That's a huge win for his administration. He's doing what alot of presidents were unable to do in the past, to the detriment of the American people.

Well done, for such an old guy nobody wants. America thanks you.
*some of America thanks you.

We know there's a large portion who would never praise Biden even if they directly benefit from this.

Wouldn't benefit from it until sometime in 2026 according to the article. And it is an election promise that could go away when no longer convenient. Waiting patiently.

Good! Sounds like he took the halt off of Trump plans:

A freeze by the new Biden administration on Trump-era regulations will hit at least two rules aimed at lowering drug prices, including one dealing with insulin and EpiPens for under-served patients.
The halt follows a memo last month from White House chief of staff Ron Klain directing agencies to halt new and pending regulations from going into effect to ensure Biden officials have the opportunity to review them.
The Department of Health and Human Services issued a flurry of regulations that sought to address high drug prices, one of Americans’ chief health care complaints, in the waning days of former President Donald Trump’s term. They stemmed from a set of executive orders Trump signed in July and September.

President Donald Trump has signed four executive orders aimed at cutting prescription drug prices in the US.
"The four orders I'm signing today will completely restructure the prescription drug market," said Mr Trump, who has long criticised "astronomical" prices.

Well, now that CAN'T be true because we all KNOW that Trump is out to stick it to the plain people of the world. No matter what he says or does.

I guess it wasn't a high priority in the prior administrtion since Trump didn't sign the executive orders until July and September (right before the election).

And a lot of the savings wont kick in until 2025 (insulin) and later in 2028:

Some of the most significant direct savings for patients may accrue starting in 2028, when the first negotiated prices go into effect for drugs that are administered in clinics rather than taken at home. At that point, patients without supplemental insurance are likely to see their out-of-pocket costs drop for those drugs.

Other provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act — including a new $35 monthly cap on out-of-pocket costs for insulin and, starting in 2025, a $2,000 annual cap on patient costs for drugs taken at home — will most likely do more to directly save money for Medicare beneficiaries.

...

No surprise who is opposing it...

Republicans in Congress opposed authorizing Medicare to negotiate prices, criticizing the move as tantamount to imposing government price controls.

Six pharmaceutical manufacturers — Astellas Pharma, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson and Merck — have taken the Biden administration to court in an attempt to block the negotiation program. The industry’s main trade group and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have also filed suit.

Must not be a Biden administration priority either or they would have done it two years ago instead of bringing it around as a campaign issue for a second term.

trump never finalized the deal. This thread is about a Biden accomplishment, not a trump failure to pass legislation.

This was not a Executive Order signed by Biden. It was legislation signed by Congress.

Please stay on topic.

It was not just an election promise, it was signed into law. If it goes away, it would be because either the drug companies successfully litigate it into oblivion or the republicans change the law. Either way it was a promise kept.

Trump's deal was not finalized because Biden froze it - and it is on topic because it is Joe claiming victory for something Trump started.

I'll not continue - the truth is there to read.

I laid no blame on Biden, merely stated he froze the Trump program for lowering prices.

The topic of the thread is the lowering of prices -

I pointed out the inconvenient truth that there was a program already in play until Joe froze it.

Giving history and back story to the OP is Completely on the same topic -

As I said, Executive Orders don't cut it. Biden and the democrats PASSED legislation making it law.

No more discussion of TFG here. He did not pass legislation to lower drugs. You are welcome to start your own thread about how trump did not pass any laws lowering prescription drugs for Americans.

The topic of the thread is about how Biden and the democrats passed legislation to lower drug prices.
