  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't know if I should post the song (because there is cussing in the song) so I won't, but this song seems to have taken America by storm. You can see why. The man speaks from his heart about how politicians use and abuse people. It's very much a "for the people" type of song. You can disagree with the language he uses (his cussing) but he seems to have struck a nerve with the American people. The song was released on August 08, 2023, and it already has over 43 million views. That's really something! It's caught the attention of news outlets like Ben Shapiro and The Babylon Bee. It's really something!

If there's cussing it's a red flag. God instills the authorities. Even if they use and abuse the people it's not our business to take things into our own hands. We should pray for them and leave the matter to God.

I don't agree with the cussing, but it's a good song despite that. He's not calling for people to "take things into their own hands." There's nothing wrong with speaking out against a corrupt government (though cussing should be avoided).

I know which song you are talking about I heard it, best thing to do is just post his name and song title and people who are interested will search for it themselves. Apparently the who world is searching for it, he became an internet sensation overnight. Didnt he turn down something like 8 million dollars to be signed or something like that?

He seems like a geniunely kind man.

A bad word can set some folks over the deep edge, its probably best not to. I think I posted a video many years back where there was a bad word somewhere on it and I caused all sorts of pearl clutching and that was my bad, it slipped right past me.

It's astroturfing. The song perpetuates toxic, malicious memes about poor people. It's typical mass-produced country music garbage, in other words, masquerading as folk music.

I understand that his aspiration is to be a farmer, not a full-time musician. His music is a form of self-therapy for his struggles with mental illness. He had been sober for a month when he released that song.

Its significance is that in a culture as superficial as ours, a man simply singing what he’s feeling into a microphone is going to catch a lot notice, simply because we hear so little of it.

Did you see Matt Walsh's new video over at Youtube concerning him? He didn't seem right. But I also had no idea he was just sober for such a short period of time. I didnt know what to make of it.

"Let me write the songs of the world, and I'll care not who writes its laws"
Hollywood, and the political left understand this completely, that art can influence our life, and our decisions. The song is not my cup of tea, but I understand where he's coming from- I've worked in machine trades over 40 years, and it's been affected by government trade policies as well.

Yes, the government is corrupt. It's like what Harry Browne once said that "government cripples you, then hands you a crutch and says, 'See, if it wasn't for us, you couldn't walk." There is no account of the 'unintended consequences' every bill they pass does to the forgotten people of the country. Then once they are heard, of course they offer another program to "help".

man he is brilliant. He reminds me of other folk singers that speak to a generation like Dylan or Arlo Guthrie. But he has that blues or mountain music style as well. I think his main appeal is that he is singing from the heart to a generation who are going through the same. He's believable and real and you don't get that with all the computer based songs.

Michael Knowles has an interesting take on his sudden sucess. I agree with Knowles that he is a bit like Levon Helm. By the way theres no swearing in it as its been cut out.

that wasn't my impression at all --if anything, the song traffics in class hostility and anger towards the rich.

his descriptions of the poor are not inaccurate.

and it certainly isn't mass-produced

As Knowles points out in the video its the first time in a long time that a conservative folk singer has become popular. Its usually the Left Liberal leaning Folk singers who we have come to know like Woodie Guthrie, Joni Mitchell, Donovan, Pete Seeger, Dylan ect. Though Dylan did have a period of Christian belief.

But the folk singers of the past grew out of the counter culture, the hippies which was more on the Left. Now it seems for the first time in a long time Conservative ande traditionalist singers are the new counter culture.

Which means that the progressive movement became dominate and moved from a counter culture to mainstream since the 60s to the point that now conservative and traditional singers are protesting and have become the new counter culture against the mainstream Left and progressives.

I believe that the "anger towards the rich", is more about those who supposedly represent us, that are regulating working people out of business, while they reap dividends for their deals made. They claim to be "public servants", but serve themselves and their families more. They are so cavalier about spending billions and trillions of dollars, while the average citizen scrapes for a couple hundred dollars.
